I just bought this watch Need help

The serial number is 1,229,xxx
I had my local watchmaker look it he said it was authentic and according to the paperwork I got from the owner its from 1965.
I read that I should not get it polished .. or get it serviced because they might replace the original stuff that came with it.
So I don't know what to do at this point , it needs cleaning and the crystal needs polishing.

Any thoughts of what this piece is worth and what I should or should not do ?
My local watchmaker said he will charge me $375 for a service clean up .

Thanks again guys I like the watch and might keep it but I am not a collector this is really my first Rolex ever, I might just sell it to get a new one

Your GMT 1675 appears to have been at the Rolex Service Center in the past. The bracelet, original gilt dial and bezel insert, and probably the hands, have been replaced and are no longer original. While a very nice watch still, collectors like their vintage Rolex as original as possible. Since many of the visual, original parts have already been changed, I doubt the RSC would change them again, but that is just my opinion.

As far as having it serviced by an independent watchmaker, there are many competent ones out there so that shouldn't be an issue.

Looks like a Mark 5 dial which was used as a early service dial before the luminova dials were introduced. Can't say for sure without better pics.

My serial is close to yours and wears the same dial. Unfortunately the gilt dial was replaced during a 1978 service.

While of course they won't be worth as much as because there not 100% original ,there still authentic and very nice looking.

Yes that's a mark 5 dial. Nice watch and nothing wrong with having a service dial as long as it was reflected in the price of the watch.

I would have it serviced by your local watchmaker and enjoy.

I really can't say for sure. I'm not a dealer. But you can look up other 1675s that are for sale that have service dials and get a rough estimate.

Keep it. Yours has more character and much more rare than a current model.

If you think that you will never want a Rolex, sell it. If you want a "new" Rolex keep this one and save up for what ever else strikes your fancy. The rule rather than the exception around here is that you WILL want a vintage piece eventually as your tastes and knowledge expands. You'll be glad you kept it.

Thanks .. I did get some private messages and some offers... I am undecided as I really want to get a decent Daytona. The watch is growing on me as I see a lot of 1675 owners love and appreciate the watch.

So do you guys think I should or should not have the local watchmaker polish it and clean it up ?

^^^ haha that does not suprise me at all about the Pms.

Personally I would not have your local watchmaker polish it unless he has the proper machines (lapping machine etc)

Is it keeping decent time? If the answer is yes, don't do anything. IF the crystal is a bit scratched, try some toothpaste and a rag. should be enough to satisfy your eyes. When you have an extra $5-600 burning a hole in your pocket, send her off to a qualified watch shop for a complete internal going-through.
NPA baby! (NO Polishing Allowed)

I would keep it! My buddy had his acrylic crystal polished at the AD's as a courtesy. I would also think about having the bracelet steam cleaned while you are there. It is amazing how good an old watch looks after it is steam cleaned by an expert!

My Rolexes have all had parts replaced by RSC over the years. I wish I could have all-original NOS-condition watches, but for Rolex that's just more money than I want to spend. I like my watches fine in their current condition.

Doesn't need much. Either invest some money into it or trade for the one you want.

Very nice watch.
I love 1675's as I have one myself, like you I also received pm's with offers much lower than real value back when I had a similar post count, there are some shady folks in those pm's, not all but some.
