Got the call! Explorer II incoming
I’ve been lusting after the Explorer II for nearly 15 years but was never in a position to buy. Back then my (now wife) had told me that it should be a goal to be able to afford one by my 35th birthday. Of course when I turned 35 the watch world is upside down, so it took a few months longer than that, but I made it. Been on “the list” for about a month, took a long lunch to come pick it up from the AD.
Still at the AD so better pictures later. |

Congrats man. The Explorer II was the first Rolex I purchased for myself. I purchased mine on my 30th birthday with my bonus from the U.S. Navy. I took a long look at it, drove halfway home, turned around, and got it that day. That was in 2011; the year this model came out. Excellent choice.

The EXP 2 is an awesome watch and the black dial variant is severely underrated. Congrats op!

Congrats! In perspective, a month wait isn't bad. The Explorer II is definitely the next watch I want to get.

I've been on "lists" for about 3 months across a few different AD's, this one just happened to be the most recent SA I talked to. A month (even 3) isn't bad compared to what some folks wait. There was a guy in the store buying a 126711CHNR, so it must have been delivery day from Rolex.

Congrats, you're very lucky! Last summer I asked the watchmaker who always deals with me at my Rolex AD about this very model. He gave me a very strange look and changed the subject...!!

Well done. The black dial with the phantom hands. It’s a very handsome watch. Love mine.

Congratulations. A fantastic watch. The black and the white are both striking in their own ways. Nothing else quite pops like a Polar, particularly when the fat blue lumes get going. And little else captures the cool of the floating hands of the black dial version. Lovely both. Built like tanks, modern in feel and function, charmingly retro in styling.
The Explorer was supposed to be my only Rolex and my last, top quality watch, to get old with and pass on. As it turned out, it was only the start. In December 2017 I walked into my AD, got a discount, bought it and walked out an hour later. Today I wouldn't believe it - even though I was there! I love it as much as I ever did and it's still my first choice when I travel out of my home time zone. |
