*****Welcome - Please Read*****
This forum is for the discussion of vintage model Rolex watches and related material and paraphernalia.
The same rules stated in the parent (General Rolex Discussion) forum are applicable in this forum, so if you are not familiar with them now might be a good time to find out. Although this forum is primarily intended for the discussion of vintage Rolex watches, that does not mean it is mutually exclusive. Vintage Rolex watches may also be photographed and discussed on the General Rolex forum and other forums. Anyway, I hope you will get as much pleasure from vintage Rolex watches as I do, they are fascinating and can provide much more by way of history, as many in fact have a history to tell, it is this history that is enriches the watch and our appreciation of it. Enjoy.

hello friend, my impression is that some rolex models are so special as to be vintage when allmost new. right now i'm wearing my favorite, a 1943 aviator that really is my ideal of vintage! i have owned this watch for years and can't find anything about it. it's a big 44mm art deco 17 jewel manual wind and would love to hear from anyone interested, thanks, joe

Question from a newb
Would a GMT Master 18k with 18K jubilee band circa 1970s be considered vintage?
It has had a hard life as I have worn it as a daily watch. My wife got it for me used, years ago as a wedding gift. When I got it factory serviced the serial number makes it look like it is from 1977. It has scratches and wear. This is the first time I have tried to find out anything about it. Thank you Last edited by grampakent; 25 November 2013 at 02:56 AM.. Reason: more info |

Hi, I'm looking for some information on a Tudor Prince Hydronaut.
I bought it from a Rolex dealer in South Africa in 2010. It was brand new and unworn as it had been sitting in a safe for a number of years. I purchased it in preference to the Sub Mariner from Rolex as it was far cheaper and more "collectable". Anyone can walk into a dealer and buy a new Sub Mariner but I've never seen a new Tudor Prince Hydronaut for sale anywhere. I think the new price was around $2000, I've seen second hand sales asking up to $3500 now; so the watch depending on the prospective buyer or seller it seems to have appreciated in value. I understand the watch is nothing special but it is an acceptable equivalent to the Sub Mariner and its relative "rarity" makes it more attractive to me as a personal timepiece; it's nice to have something a little different. I do however have a few questions for the more informed collectors out there. Your assistance in educating me will be greatly appreciated. My Tudor is on the steel bracelet [of the "older" Rolex design which most people criticise] and it is the Black dial model. I am aware of a number of variations ie; rubber of fabric straps and different coloured dials from white, blue, black ect. My questions are pertinent to my model only ie. steel braclet and black dial. Every Prince Hydronaut of the same model I have seen is printed either with "Hydronaut", or "Tiger" [Tiger Woods/golf I think?] on the lower portion of the dial just above the 200m/660ft depth rating. Unusually mine has nothing but the depth rating printed on the lower portion of the dial. It is exactly as all the others I have seen except there is no "Hydronaut" or "Tiger" printed on the bezel. Can anyone tell me why mine simply is printed "Tudor Prince Date" at the top of the dial and "200m/660ft" on the bottom of the dial and why "Hydronaut" is "missing"? Is it possible I may have one of the very "first generations" of the watch and that "Hydronaut" or the "Tiger" editions were added after? I've included a generic image for reference only; as I explained my own watch is identical but missing "Hydronaut". |

Dad's Watch, atleast 55 years
The attached photograph is of my Late Father's 6020.
Maintained by Marc & Co., Authorised service centre, in Mumbai. It's been spiffed up a bit. I love it. For me, it's priceless. |

Help to find a model
Dear all,
I have just received from my father in law a Rolex Precision from 1954-1956 (he says). He remembers the event when this watch was given him as present but not the exact year. It is fantastic, I already love it. My question is: Which is the year of this watch? I've found the model, Coin Edge Precision, but the serial number is 106 thousands and using some web-tools I found that the production year should be 1938. I found some almost identical watches and they are from the mid '50. Which is the real age pf production? Because if it was from the '30s it could be his father's watch and he would not remember this particular. Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer me! |

Air King ref 5520
I got this the other day and had it serviced at a Rolex AD, here in Montreal.
Its a pretty cool watch, very uncommon reference. The "expert" at the AD watch repair section thought it was a fake Its nice, but I just cant get used to it; feels extremely light on the wrist, I dont think its for me, but hey, its a cool watch to look at! ahhhh the days when Rolex used to love gold plating their watches!
