Mb&f lm101

Question for the group. If you're offered an LM101 allocation, would you take? Any owners here that can share some insight?

Not an owner but I’d buy one if I could afford it/got offered one. Great watch and brand.

I have a steel 101. When I took delivery my mother of all people loved it and asked for it so she has it now. I used to think it would be my one and done watch, but now not really sure that exists anymore. When it first came out I felt like it had such a unique aesthetic but these days there are other brands with *somewhat* similar styles. The biggest positive about MBF has to be Max. I do like supporting him and the brand. I had some issues with the store I ordered it from and they took my complaints seriously. I don't think I've ever attempted to reach out to anyone like that before, but when the CEO responds back to an email in a few hours that blew me away. It won't be the most accurate watch, and if you use a loupe it won't be as perfectly finished as other brands but that's not much different than many of the more expensive watches I have. When I asked for the lug dimensions to order extra straps they didnt just write the lug width, they sent me the file of the sketch with all the dimensions. It's like armin strom. I went to a dinner get together with my wife, even she remarked that these seem like people that you want to buy and support their products, not the pretentious brands that make it seem like they're doing you a favor allowing you to buy their products.

I assume the LM101 with dual hairsprings, take it with both hands. Which case/dial combo?

Adding a picture to provide some context

This is one of my favorites and if I have to do it again, I will do it again in a heartbeat.

But your question does seem to imply that you are not in mad love with it? MB&F is not for everyone and you do have to love it to appreciate it. For me, to be able to stare down at the balance wheel at work to take my mind off is already priceless.

Max is icing on the cake. His persona and the custom focus of the company is just amazing. I am eagerly waiting for the arrival of my minimilians. That is a nice surprise as a token of appreciation for their customers.

The allocation is for late 2025 on the steel/light blue version. I'm dealing with MB&F directly as I didn't want to deal with the retailer near me. Never owned an MB&F before and handled them on limited occasions. It's not exactly a common watch. I've always been intrigued by his designs and his persona.

Mind if I ask why you didn’t want to work with your local AD?

I think they trade for a little bit under retail now, like low 60s? I see one right now in Moda for ~$63k asking so I'm guessing he would take $58k or so for it as it hasn't sold and has been listed for a while.

IMO they are amazing watches for the money. I handled one with beautiful gold frosting, was super cool.

The finishing is very nice at the price point, and the designs/movements are obviously next level VS other watches.

And like others said, MB&F has a great reputation VS big brands.

I wouldn't hesitate if you love the aesthetic. Maybe consider the Armin Strom Mirrored Force in the same price range. I ultimately went the Armin Strom route because I liked the dimensions more, but I think I will still pick up an MB&F one day. The aesthetics, finish, and people are just too good a combo to resist!

Are you in SoCal?

Steel and light blue is exactly what I have. The size is very wearable and if you like the MB&F LM design language, it is as good as it gets. And beware, it can be your gateway drug into the other LMs.

Adding another pic of the LM101 with its LM2 brethren. The palladium LM2 is mine and the RG belongs to my friend. At 44mm, it is surprisingly a very wearable piece.

I have a rose gold one and love it. Great watch from a great company. Would not hesitate to buy all over again. As a matter of fact, looking to add SE Evo. Values a bit softer today so can probably get secondary a bit under sticker if that matters. HM10 Ti just traded for a bit under $90k which is a killer deal.

Thank you!

I love the Dufour Duality inspiration for the LM2. And I was about to cave in to get a RG LM2 even though I never wear colored metal. Fortunately that I held out long enough (one month) and the palladium version was announced and my AD was able to secure an allocation for me. He actually traveled to Geneva and met with Max to close the allocation. Feeling very lucky and grateful.

On top of that. The aquamarine dial is amazing.

I love hearing stories like this. Glad you had a great experience.

The rose gold is also quite nice but you definitely made the right choice here. That aquamarine/palladium combo is the standout of all the LM2s.

Yes, I'm in socal. Your collection of independents is quite stunning. Would you mind posting a side view that shows the dome of the glass? Thanks!

Not a very good pic as I just snapped it. If it is the height you are concerned, I would say it should not be. The watch is extremely wearable and the dome is not even noticeable.

May I ask how come you don’t want to work with the MB&F Lab in BH?

Thank you so much. I think the dome height is my biggest concern and need to get my head wrapped around it.

If given an option, I would much rather deal with a brand directly instead of an AD. As we all know, AD's can have an agenda or even lose status one day. Ive found MB&F to be very responsive and accomodating so far.

As I said, the dome should not be a concern. The watch body itself is quite slim and the dome gradually slopes up. But of course it is a personal opinion. For me, even the larger LM2 is very wearable.

MB&F treats all their owners quite the same. My friend got his LM2 in the secondary market and he got the same benefits as a first owner like MAD One allocation and the minimilians.

For myself, even I got my watches through an AD, I have direct contact with their sales and customer support staff. In fact, Max would message me directly. I truly believe that as long as you are in the Tribe, you are part of it regardless where you acquired the piece. It is part of the special experience you get from the independent watchmakers. ( the other one is FPJ )

But of course there is nothing wrong with working directly with MB&F and I am sure MB&F Lab at BH will help you with after sales service if needed.

Thank you for sharing your insight. Very much appreciated. I limit the number of brands I collect and try to make sure it's a brand I collect multiple pieces from. I need to make sure MB&F is that brand before I make that jump. I was fascinated with Moser for a few years and eventually took the plunge, but ended up not being my cup of tea. Just trying to avoid those misteps.

Same here, I am limiting myself to only 2-3 pieces per year now and I would like to stick with only a few brands.

One concern with MB&F is that if you don’t venture into HMs, you can run out of references to collect in the LM series. After LM101, LMP and LM sequential, you may already have all the essential in production models. I am expecting a LM Sequential EVO later this year and after it, I will wait for a “perfect” LM Perpetual as an exit piece. Hoping there is a first ever tantalum from the brand. One can only dream…

My wife absolutely refuses to let me get any HMs. :-(

My son loves the aquapod. A few years ago I posted a photo of him biting into his pancakes to look like the battle-axe logo, and they sent him an MBF poster. I love the moon machine/can am, hoping to get one at a good price.

That dial colour and palladium combo is one of the best I have see in any watch. Very fresh.

i'd definitely pull the trigger. MB&f is nothing like any other indie brands and you won't regret doing it and in fact you might be collecting more with your journey :)

A wonderful watch I recommend giving it a try. I don’t have mine anymore but it’s not an indictment on the watch. I just felt compelled to trade it towards a CS Havana.

Thickness is a non issue and I got compliments from non watch people on it. Honestly I like max and his vision more than his creations. I still think his watches are top notch I just tend to lean classical even though I pretend to be avant garde.

Thanks. That’s the delugs elastic. One of my favorite cheap straps. Incredibly comfy and works even for curved spring bar setups like this.
