5513 dial

Are all 5513 reference submariners prior to the 1970s supposed to have the gilt dial? Would RSC change it to the new dial when servicing or would they replace it with the original style dial? Thanks.

1966 was the last year for gilt dials.

And in answer to your other question, no, there are no new old stock replacement dials anymore to install. A Rolex Service Center would replace it with a newer service dial, probably with Luminova. You could still try and source a respectable period-correct dial on EBAY or some other site.

Most context would help, or photos of the specific watch of interest.

The vast majority of 5513's are non-gilt. 5512's were gilted.

Those are long-gone. You're going to get non-gilted dials now with SL.

Service dials are the last/most recent dial used for the reference. They do not look around for an earlier version at service.

Thank you all for the responses. Is there anything I should look out for when purchasing a 5513?

5512s were matte dialed from ‘67 to ‘79ish.

Yes, there are some things to look out for, but we can't give you a simple formula. Study hard and learn as much as you can. Here's a starting point.
