what to buy

I have a 2004 exp 2 white that I like but dont love. I'm thinking about changing it for a GMT2c though I have read a few bad things about this model. Date stuck, broken clasp and losing ceramics. A definifate concern. I've found a new one with 6% discount. Not great but better than nothing.
My other choices are Sub no date used and the sea dweller is also used. The GMT is £800 more than the 2005 Sea Dweller And the Dweller is £900 more than the 2006 ND Sub. All watches from independent watch dealers here in the UK. I could get the ND sub and keep the Exp 2 as another option.
Sorry if I'm repeating myself its a differcult decision.

I have personally never been a fan of the Explorer II, whilst I am a HUGE fan of the new GMT. So for me? It would be a no brainer for the GMT-2C, EVEN with the reported problems being taken into account (although I'd be buying mine used).

However, as a secondary option, I would definitely get the ND Sub and keep the EXP2.

I'm down in Devon for the festive season and whilst I'm biased, because I have one, I would get the SS GMTIIc. I absolutely adore this watch. I got 10% off mine last year with my Signet Shareholder discount card and 12 months interest free credit which takes the edge off the higher price. Talking of price it is £4,360 only until the end of the year whereupon the VAT going back to 17.5% adds another £100.

Forgot to add that I have had mine for 18 months now without a single issue. Great watch!

(saying the following while knocking on wood)
I got my IIc in the Fall of 2007...not one issue with it. Period.
It's a great watch- you'll love it.

Yes I could but it would cost and I think it would devalue my watch. So I Think I would rather change it for something Standard. That said I'm not a fan of the cyclops hence the Dweller and ND Sub. The GMT does at least have an AR coating under the cyclops. That is a big improvement.

And as I'm sure you are well aware, the cyclops on the GMT CAN be removed (and of course the anti-reflective will remain underneath it). I don't like that look but it can certainly be accomplished easily. The GMT is truly a great watch, and I see you leaning that way, so I can tell you you would NOT be disappointed with it.

I've had a tu-tone and a stainless come through and loved the heck out of both of them. I like them even more than the TT Daytona I had.

Totally agree. If I had to sell one of my Rolexes it would be the SS Daytona!

If EJ in Exeter have something in stock you're after I think I can flash my card on you're behalf (perhaps other Signet Shareholders can chip in as to whether this can be done) for an easy 10% off and 12 months interest free credit!

I had a Sea Dweller, sold it, miss having it, I would have another in a heartbeat.

Having said that, I do like the option of having both black and white faced Rolex watches in a collection, Exp II and No Date Sub, just about perfect IMHO.

Again totally agree but for me it is a SS GMTIIc and a White Dial SS Daytona.

EJ in Exeter have got one. I spoke to them today. That really is a very nice offer with the Signet card though I can't see them going for that.
By the way I'm just across the water from you in Dawlish Warren opposite Exmouth.

I really like the Exp 2. I bought a couple for sons (black face), but prefer the white. There are some big price differences in your choices. You can't go wrong with a GMT, but why not consider a used GMT or GMT II? My first was a tt, 1973 GMT, and I've got a Sub ND. I wouldn't worry about a new GMT II c that comes with warranty.

If you want to give them another call and ask you have nothing to lose. FWIW when I bought mine I just flashed it and the salesman just pressed a button on the till and hey presto 10% off. Also at that time I was given a £50 voucher which could used towards another purchase and when my mother wanted a ring in EJ that was reduced not only did she get the £50 off but I flashed the card again and another 10% off. Both times nothing appears to be recorded I just had to show that I actually had the card.

Dawlish Warren brings back memories of spending Christmases as a teenager with my Aunt/Uncle who still live there. How are those black swans?

I'm actually not a fan of the Exp II at all! I know many people like it, but I have always thought the bezel looked cheap for some reason. I have had my GMT IIC about 8 months with no problems! I love the GMT IIC and you will too!

Ok weird... you and I dislike the Exp II for the EXACT same reason. I was thinking about this earlier and I think the reason WHY I feel that way is because the Explorer II seems to be among the most copied designs in the world for Men's AND Ladies watches... and it's such a common sight since I was younger that I never really desired one afterward.

Yes, I'm sure that the Subs and Yachtmaster are probably "knocked off" more, but it SEEMS like the Explorer II has more "legitimate" off-brand homages out there by far.

The Explorer I on the other hand I love.

I like the Exp II and your thought of complementing it with the ND SUB.

"Ebony and Ivory" would be a great combo for the collection.

I got mine this past September. No issues at all. It is a great watch and I believe, one of the most handsome watches Rolex has come out with. Mine is problem free. I have only read of one instance of the bezel falling out and who knows what the person may have done, unbeknown to them to make the bezel fall out. This SS GMTIIC is my favorite watch of all the watches I own. I love the black ceramic shiny bezel with teh black dial and the PCL. It is just a classy (not flashy) looking watch. BTW, I got a 15 % discount and 12 mos no interest financing.
