Rolex boutique 5th Ave NYC authentication and appraisal?

Anyone have any experiences with the Rolex boutique on 5th Ave in NYC? I was thinking I'd bring my watch over for authentication and appraisal (so I can insure it). Would they do this?

Was thinking of doing same thing. Let me know what happens, and if they charge for it

The one time I went there I knew about 20x more about watches and Rolex than the salesperson. Really disappointing as I was leaning on him to try and tip my wife towards letting me get one. He was horrible. It didn't work.

That's my only experience there but I'm sure they could help you with an appraisal.

I've heard a lot of disparaging things about salespeople in both Rolex & Tiffany 5th Avenue.
I visited both in March. George in Patek 1st floor Tiffany was really helpful but my experience in Rolex was even better. I had the fortune to speak to a lovely lady in her 40's. She was blondish maybe a touch German. I describe her as I've unfortunately forgotten her name.
Anyway, she was a treat to talk to. She knew her watches well and had a great attitude. So seek her out. If she can, I'm sure she will. Build up a rapport though.
Tell her the Asian chap from the UK who had the Jap market green hand ToG highly recommended her to you.
Btw you should be able to authenticate and value any Rolex from the 80's onwards yourself. Any other brand I would understand, but Rolex is easy.
Anyway, let us know how you fare at R on 5th.

They will direct you to the 5th floor of the building where they charge $150 for authentication and if they find that there are parts that are not correct with the piece they charge another $150. Was there a few weeks ago. Hope this helps.

I may know who you are talking about. The girl has a late model Rolex Milligauss with white face. She knew all the model numbers by heart and the history behind it. The store was on 5th avenue around 51th-53rd and it was the new renovated Rolex store. In New York unfortunately it is a buyer beware state.

I also had a good experience with that same blonde saleswoman. Knew her stuff and really seemed to enjoy her work. Not pushy either.

They're going to direct you to RSC. They won't do anything in the store itself.

I never heard about the second part of this. I just assumed if there was an issue of authenticity, they'd charge you for the insurance appraisal and provide you with a document that says your watch is worthless. What are they technically charging you for if they find something fake? What if the fake part was cheaper than $150?

Also, as I mentioned above, I believe they call it an insurance appraisal not an "authentication".

I'm glad others can identify with the excellence this lady provides. I only wish I hadn't misplaced her business card, as I'd love to name her and give her the full credit.
We've all come accross the sharp shot treatment os some narrow minded salespeople. Actually to tell the truth, I haven't. Simple reason being when in an unfamiliar shop - I like to hover around to listen in on a conversation. If I like what I hear, I wait until that salesperson's free.
If I managed to find out the lady's name - I'll post it.

If you go upstairs to the Rolex service center they will give it a thorough going over and let you know if it needs any service

I was a little confused on the fake/hacking portion of it but it seems it is $150 for the work to be done (labor) plus cost of parts. I wish I could be more help but I would give them a call.

Do you have reasons to doubt its authenticity? Otherwise anyone can get you an appraisal for insurance purposes.
