My AD has a YM 126655 in the display won't sell

I went to a Rolex AD in Virginia, and they have an "exhibition" Yachtmaster 126655 Everrose. I wanted to buy it and was told they will put me on the list? But it's been sitting. there for awhile.

I get my other rolexes serviced there as well. I didn't haggle price or anything just wanted to buy?

Any thoughts?

They are going to pretend there is a ton of demand for that watch. Be patient.

Keep asking to buy it, and this is why.

My TT Sea Dweller was an EO piece in the cabinet when I asked to try it on, happy that it was the watch for me I asked the SA if I could buy it, after checking with the boss the SA came back and said yes. Purely by chance I was back in the store a couple of days later and in the cabinet was a new TT Sea Dweller.

I guess that either they had two - one on display and one in the safe or they knew that they had another coming in that they could put on display so were happy to sell me the one in the cabinet.

Ok thanks its strange because a sale is a sale and its sitting there LOL that's why customers go to the gray market and I have not had any bad experiences going that route, however tis was a good price $30K

Rolex requires the AD's to keep a certain inventory as "exhibition" pieces. They must stay there for a certain time period at which time they can then sell them. If they get another of the same watch in they can then sell it but replace it with another "exhibition" of the same model.

My AD said they keep a watch as exhibition until they get another one of that watch in.

A watch like that that’s available under list? I know what I would do.

They're going to have you coming in for a watch that sells under retail. I'm pretty sure they know this.

I'd just go grey, save a few 1000, and get it tomorrow. Treat yourself to a nice meal!

Exhibition watches aren’t for sale. I tried the same thing on a RG Daytona OF … and it was for my wife’s 25th anniversary. I had bought a WG OF Daytona from them in 2019, but they would not budge. Weeks later, that RG Daytona was no longer on display. I asked and they said they sent it back to Rolex. Huh …

You can easily get that watch for under MSRP gray market from a trusted seller.

From what I understand those watches that are for display only eventually Rolex will contact the authorized dealer and release one of those watches for sale so it is a good idea to let them know if you have one in that display only case that you are most particularly interested in that you let them know every time you go in that you would like to purchase one of those and who knows.

Since you get your other Rolexes serviced there, maybe you could casually ask about the wait time or if there's anything you can do to help speed things along?

Keep asking for it. Show up every week.

The DMV area ADs give me such a headache

It's been nearly 3 years and zero luck on anything

There are on C24 for £5k+ under MSRP so they are likely selling for even less. You can have one tomorrow.

That's pretty much the norm at ADs for a while now.

This is the reason you can’t buy it…yet. Just make sure they know your interest and you will likely get offered as soon as they can take it out of the exhibition rotation.
I own this piece and it’s one of my favorites. I absolutely love it! Good luck…

I would go back in and have the conversation with the SA and then the manager. Just express your desire for the watch through them. If it is still a no go, then buy Trusted Seller. I would not even give them another chance as I would buy it today and be wearing it tomorrow. But do what makes you happy.

You don't understand. As I posted above, Rolex won't let the AD sell exhibition pieces until it's time. Their hands are tied by Rolex. The OP should, however, express his interest in this piece when it becomes available. Visit multiple times, continuing to express his interest in it.

I’ve had an exhibition piece cut loose- that’s not true.
They should sell him this watch, I think he can get it done, if not in a reasonable time frame (I’d say I month max) he should just buy one from someone else and save some money and tax.

ADs will be doing everything they can to maintain the hard to get perception. It’s just funny that they are doing this with Yachmasters bc that watch has never been remotely hard to get, historically

Pretty similar to what I was told a couple of years ago by the AD that I have dealt with.

Even if it’s a pre sold watch it goes in the window as an exhibition piece for an amount of time. They leave most of the stickers in place to protect it. They will allow folk to try it on whilst it’s on display.

When I visited last time I tried a few PM watches on; the DD40 WG with Blue Ombré dial was pre sold. Customer was due to collect later in the week. The WG 1908 wasn’t sold and was available for purchase.
