I don't know why this model isn't as popular as it should be. It's pretty! And from what I've heard, Rolex will change the battery for free forever. Is this right?

I wish! Not in Australia. The batery lasts me about 3 years.

they also put an automatic movement inside of an oyster quartz case just to see
if the case was appealing and a sturdy design.

Yep and here it is, my 1630. The only difference is the 3 rows of gold links instead of the 2 on the Oysterquartz

With this immaculate 17000 from 1985. Incredibly, it came with its original inner and outer boxes, all paperwork and even the hang tag.

Future classic in my eyes...

I just recently picked up a ref 17014 with a full hologram on the case back. The serial is E9xxxxxx which puts it about 1991. Only the white ink has been rubbed off the hologram. That alone told me this watch had little wrist time. It matches up nicely with my 17000. Time to go.

It is the pinacle of HEQ, The first truly thermocompensating quartz movement. THe thing that is truly fascinating about this movement to me is that there is still a "escapement" The real diffrence is rather that use a electronically actuated stator mechanism they kept the pallet intact and left the escape wheel. It only took breitling until ~00 to develop and market their own (cheaper, piggy-backed fully electronic superquartz movement.)
