AD finally has something to sell me..but

AD showed me a 2 tone rose DateJust with a chocolate dial. Beautiful but I was looking for a different model. I want to build a relationship with them…should I take it or hold off?

I’d never buy a watch I didn’t want to wear and own.

I would not buy from any place where I need to buy something I don't want to hopefully, maybe, one day get what I really want and asked for.

If you are looking for a Datejust, they should be able to get you the one you want.

Buying a watch that you don’t want in the hope that they’ll let you buy what you do want is an abusive relationship.

If you want that particular watch buy it,but this so called AD relationship stuff is complete boswellocks. As all ADs are in business for one thing only that's to sell as many of the products they sell to anyone who enters there retail watch store.

Take it, but offer him four live chickens.

Take it but see if he will accept something else for payment that he doesn't want.

Dont want it, dont buy it….relationships work both ways.

Why settle for the ugly one if youre actually chasing the really hot sibling

If you’re looking for a different model though, maybe it’s worth holding off until you find what you really want. Building a relationship with them could be great, but you want to make sure you’re getting something you truly love, right?

Tell them the truth. It’s a beauty but not what I want. Tell them they should sell it to someone who really wants it and you don’t want to buy it just to buy it. You would rather be honest and transparent. That could get you bonus points

Agree

But I'd buy a Rolex that a family member or a friend might want and then it'd accrue to my "Rolexness" with that AD...

Top tip for the OP.

I never pegged you as a Two-Toned Rose Chocolate Datejust wearer - but still not judging a friend!

This is what I did recently. I had been waiting on the YM40 with Rhodium. My SA texted me, and said I have a blue dial here, come take a look. I did, tried it on, and while it was a gorgeous watch, I told him I'd wait, and to sell this one to someone who really wanted the blue. He understood.

Couple weeks later, I got the call for the Rhodium.

The two "best" relationships with ADs I've built have been organic. I've only bought watches I want, and in return they helped with some harder to obtain pieces but also made it clear which ones would require a lot more spend. This has been fine with me. I would never buy something I don't want just to "build" a relationship.

Pass, Most ADs can order you a DJ even the smaller ones, even the green dial fluted although that one might be a while.

Remember it’s okay to say NO, if they value your business they will make an order one for you. If they don’t move on to another ADs this relationship thing is ridiculous, you can earn a relationship with a customer when you serve them.

Good luck,

Start the relationship with truth , honesty and direct communication.
“No thank you, I appreciate you thinking of me, and the offer , but as we have discussed that’s not a combination / watch I’m looking for “

Do not buy a watch you do not want. The AD may try to do this several times with you.

You have to be happy with what you do and I know it's a conundrum when you're offered a watch. you don't want to turn it down for fear that they might not offer you another one on the one hand on the other hand if you turn down a space watch that someday you would want to buy but perhaps not today then someday may not come. In other words the old adage strike while the irons hot comes into play. You may not get them in the order that you would want to get them in but if they are watches that eventually you would want to have take them in whatever order they come in. I look at the Rolex watches a little differently than some people I'm a collector so the watches that I'm interested in purchasing are many and varied oh I have specifics that I would prefer and I have ones that I have no interest in whatsoever and will not buy those are the ones with the diamond bezels my next least favorite would be the ones with the oysterflex bracelet but that's just me you do you enjoy and have fun.
