New to the Forum/Couple of Questions?

I am preparing to make my first Rolex purchase and have a couple questions for the experts. Is it a bad idea to buy one online from ebay or another company online? Should I only consider authorized dealers?

I am looking for a brand new SS datejust with the oyster bracelet and concentric dial with arabic numbers. I have found a couple online I like for fair prices.

Now that I am ready to step up to the plate I don't want to make a mistake.

BTW how sick is the new Yachmaster II

Thanks

You won't find many here that agree with you, but you know what they say about taste I personally don't like the way it looks, but I do find it interesting none the less. Welcome to the forums!

Sort of agree with Nikhsub1 and pPresident--not a big fan of the new YM, but to each his own. Welcome aboard...

Welcome to the club. If you are considering a brand new watch, AD is the way to go. I have done business with 2 companies in Dallas but on preowned/vintage timepieces. For new watches; go to your local AD, maybe on out of state can give you a good deal and ship you the watch to save taxes as well.

On YMII.....no comment.

firstly no it is not bad if you will buy from known greysellers at ebay like: Topnotch-watches, Doctor Rolex, watch collector, or authentic-watches are the popular names of graysellers at Ebay if you search with writing Rolex to search bar you will find them. Just buy from sellers at Ebay who has %100 feedback and has a 'ME' page and also a 'Powerseller' with a certificate from Ebay and who answers emails in the same day, if you go with these you will be satisfied, and you will get the watch alot cheaper, just pay with PAYPAL.

Welcome to TRF. Glad you found your way over here.

As for where to buy, the safest place to go is an AD. You won't get any bargains but for a DJ, you might get something off if you do some negotiating.

E-Bay is the least safe place to buy, but it works if you are careful. There are some other grey dealers that are reputable and may give you better prices than you could get from an AD. www.alanfurman.com is one place. There are a couple of others around that are also trustworthy.

Good luck on the search. The DJ is a beautiful watch, especially with the new Jubilee bracelet with hidden clasp.

As for the new YM - about all I'll say is "it's interesting."

JPTX, I just got a great watch and deal from Doctor Rolex in Boynton Beach Fl. yesterday, traded my 18K YM for a new 18K GMT Master ll Ceramic Bezel .I found Doctor Rolex on Ebay but travelled to his business to look at the GMTll.His off Ebay business is Universal Timepieces 102 Commerce Road Boynton Beach Fl.33426 (561 868-7827) Dennis Kennedy ,a real nice young man, I have a three year warranty from him and a complete buffing of my watch in two years gratis. He is a big Rolex seller. Hayman4353

Welcome to TRF. If it's your first Rolex I would suggest an AD for a new one. If you're looking pre-owned the Timekeeper http://www.preownedrolex.com/ is awesome. If you choose to go with a gray dealer, I personally know several people who have purchased from http://www.alanfurman.com/ and have been pleased with the outcome.

Do your research, push for a discount and best of luck Let us know how it turns out

I bought my GMTII from Top Notch on Ebay and they are great. Scott's prices are very reasonable. I would give him a call....at least to price what he has in stock.

I dont know any guy in Ebay that will sell you an authentic and new ROLEX about 5000USD if the MSRP is 7800USD, they will not make more discount than %20 and already an AD makes %10 discount, and you must pay shipment, tax, insurance, money transfer fee just to buy the watch, and the watch can come with a mistake, may have a problem and warranty may not work in your country in that case AD will not change or repair freely, thats why just for %10 it's not good idea to risk the amount which is more than 7 times of that small discount and also risk the warranty and make it more difficult to sell in your area, better to buy from AD when you see it in real, not at the photo in Ebay, that you may not get what you see never forget it, dont believe to your eyes unless you see in real!!! That's my opinion not good idea to buy items from ebay over 100 USD.

For me personally, there is NO OPTION but an AD. I like to try it on, talk to the guy or gal. See the watch, etc. I really dont care about discounts, because when I decide to buy, I can afford it, so I dont worry about it. TO me its like trying to go into McDonalds and get a discount IMO, do we try for discounts on everything we buy? If I can afford it, so be it. I have bought 5 Rolex watches, never have I asked for a discount, does that make me a loser(dont think so)but they gave me one anyway. Also everytime I go into my AD, he gives me beautiful watch boxes and other gifts as a good customer.

I would NEVER lay down $1000's of dollars to buy a picture or someones word...but thats just me. I like piece of mind that if there is a problem, I have a store I can go back to, not emails and missed phone calls.
Others on TRF I know have done online purchases with no problems.

Good luck and post pix..

Welcome.
I would recomend you to buy the first Rolex from an AD.
Just for the peace of mind.

For the YM: no comment.

I think the YM II is HIDEOUS!

"Astcell" very funnily called it the "Clownmaster II"

As for buying Rolex watches from the Internet (like eBay etc.): I for my part would NEVER buy a watch without having it in my hands. So I always go to my Rolex AD.

I found it! New SS DJ with silver concentric dial/arabic numbers/WG fluted bezel. Have an appointment Sarturday at Bachendorf's once I get back in town.

Thanks for the advice, I considered the ebay seller but was really uneasy about the idea of paying $$$ over the internet

So I am paying a little more $1K but feel very confident in my decision.
I will post pics this weekend.

Plenty sick, my friend.

For starters, it looks like it's been kicked in the face by a horse (note the horseshoe mark left on the dial!!)
