Icon11 Day-Date Presidential or Cosmograph Daytona

I am looking for a low key/understate gold watch and consider the white gold versions of the Day-Date Presidential white and the Cosmograph Daytona Ghost . I would appreciate advice and any recommendations of any other models I should consider.
Thanks

I currently have a white gold Day Date with the blue roman dial, and I love it. I am also working on a purchase of a Daytona on OF. I have tried one on at an AD and it was a great! That said, for me, I wouldn’t buy an OF PM model if I didn’t already own the DD 40. If this is your first PM piece, I would say go for the DD.

First up, decide if you want a Day Date which is more formal, or a Sports Chrono which is funnily enough more sporty, and go from there.

Is this going to be a daily watch or part of a larger collection? Loads to consider around how spending so much on a luxury watch fits in with how you intend on using it.

I am seeing a lots of Daytona WG and YG on OF in China. I do wonder how many of them are real.

They do look really really good! But man, the price for Rolex rubber....

and no, the WG Daytona OF is no stealth piece lol.... My SubD looks like a Casio next to it.

Both options will be recognized from a mile away, the color doesn’t make a difference at all.

To answer I feel like a DD should be in YG and the Daytona looks better in WG

Not a fan of either and would NOT call any gold watches low key no matter the brand prefer in watches SS.

WG oysterflex Daytona is going to look more low key that a full gold Day Date IMHO.

I think an OF model will be more casual / stealthy than a full metal bracelet but wouldn't call either one low key. Both are very recognizable watches.

Ooo, interesting.

I think the more a watch looks like what a non-watch person would draw as a watch, then the more low-key it is. I don't think any non-watch person would draw chrono-pushers. So I think the DayDate is more low-key.

Also, the black dial (colour might attract slightly more attention). And smooth bezel, if white gold DayData comes with that.

WG Daytona on bracelet will be your best bet as far as low key, but still a very recognizable watch. The DD is very recognizable, as well as fairly flashy in WG, with the pres bracelet and fluted bezel.
A WG Yachtmaster on OF might be worth looking at as far as being fairly stealth.

PM on a bracelet and the Daytona has the Easy Link Clasp and allows adjustability on the fly from the bracelet.

Agree with Richard, the WG YM on OF will be a little more low key than the Daytona. If you're really stuck on a Daytona, though, my sense is it will be just a touch less flashy than the DD.

That said, get the watch you really want.

$40,000 and low key do not go hand in hand, regardless of gold color.
However, WG is more toned down as some will confuse it with SS.

Definitely Full Gold! 228239 Blue Roman is simple/low key with a little kick! And no, I don't wear it next to the love bracelet..only wore it to take this pic =)

The 519 will for sure be more under the radar and more robust for daily wear. Rubber strap, ceramic bezel.

While many will think DJ when they see a WG DD, it still screams Rolex much louder than a Daytona on OF. For the random person that is.

I’m having the same conversation with my AD. She is recommending the DD with ombre dial which looks fantastic but I’d like to see the Daytona on OF as a comparison.

Try looking for a Day Date 118209 with the Oyster bracelet.
That looks low key.
Otherwise for the money I would just get a stainless Daytona.

I’m a complete DD fanboy, so my vote is clear.

Even a WG DD can be comparatively flashy or low-key, although I think almost the only people who recognize it as 18K are other watch fans (& presumably thieves and golddiggers).

For a low-key gold watch, the white gold Day-Date offers classic elegance with subtle prestige, while the Daytona “Ghost” provides a modern, understated sporty look. Both are versatile and refined. Alternatives worth considering are the Patek Aquanaut 5168G for sporty discretion and the Vacheron Overseas in white gold for a balanced, elegant option.

My personal opinion is Daytona. You can’t go wrong with a Daytona, but at the same time the DD is an icon! Had the chance to try on a factory gem set DD and it was stunning. The presidential bracelet is like silk on the wrist. You will buy both in the end anyway.

The term "presidential" is actually not a part of the Rolex lexicon. The term "president" refers to the bracelet only. From the Rolex website: "Created specially for the Day-Date in 1956, the elegant and imposing President bracelet is inherent to the standing of the watch. Immediately recognizable, this 18 kt gold or 950 platinum bracelet with three semi-circular links provides complete reliability and comfort."

People used to call the whole watch a Rolex President, but now it is mostly called the Day Date.

I have seen a few threads lately using the term "presidential" and thought a quick mention was in order. Oddly, I have heard the watch called the presidential from SAs in ADs who have had the Rolex training.

Possibly controversial but I would recommend the all gold datejust 116238. The jubilee is the best, and in all gold (chef kiss). I am partial to the jubilee vs the president tho and partial to the datejust vs the DD.
