How could Rolex destroy their most beautiful Daytona watch? Speachless.
I am devastated and gutted. This forum is therapy for me today.
This has got to be the biggest Rolex fail I can possibly think of. Rolex took a perfect organic design and purposely ruined every aspect of the iconic Daytona. It’s like they are trying to showcase how much better the 11 series Daytona is/was with a “New Coke” exercise in marketing. Epic fail with butchering the Daytona line. I am in disbelief Rolex could make so many design screw-ups their most perfect watch. Oh man that metal edge around the bezel is a huge issue for collecting dings and wear marks. IMO….it adds nothing and becomes a liability. The biggest “fail” is the beautiful organic case lines have been butchered into a now blocky supercase look? ?? A blocky Daytona? The 11 series Daytona has now become incredibly special and “THE” SS Daytona.

Agree 100%. No more silly asymmetric lugs, sharper and cleaner dial, vintage looking bezel ring, and a new case shape that will (hopefully) make it wear a little larger. Love it.

I'm really curious to see what the actual case measurements are. If it is now a true 40mm I'll be happy.

Hahah Mystro, totally agree. The metal ring around the bezel is a nod back to likea 6263 I guess. But I personally don't love the idea of dinging the edge of it.
If my AD offers one, I will add it to the collection. Am I desperate for it? Absolutely not.

The steel ring around the bezel is an ugly addition. The case looks chunkier and the brushed sides are just weird. The old one looks a more complete design.

Till I see one in the metal I can’t say one way or the other.
Aesthetically I much prefer the new subdials and symmetrical case. I’m not sure about the bezel outline tho. For me the biggest turn off’s still remain: unbalanced dial layout, and screw down pushers. Jury is out, but I’d say I slightly prefer the new version over the old YMMV |

…I kinda like the new reference more. The dial looks cleaner and the case quite svelte.

Welcome to Rolex’s glacial product development speed!
To be fair there ARE a fair few changes here, but only for us WIS.

I completely agree. The new one is a massive downgrade. The metal bezel with a ceramic insert is the biggest problem with the new Daytona. It's taken the Daytona from being my favorite watch Rolex makes to now being one of my least favorite. The metal bezel now makes the ceramic look terrible. It feels like a Speedmaster. Never thought Rolex would be imitating a Speedmaster's design, but here we are. Huge disappointment. Then again, with the emoji watch and all, Rolex has basically become a joke.

How could Rolex destroy their most beautiful Daytona watch? Speachless.
Why?
The new Cosmograph Daytona Ref. 126506 has the new (improved) 4131 movement with Chronenergy escapement, which beautifully works in all 32xx movements Lovers get what they deserve? |

They fixed the lugs, so it appears. Automatically 10x better. I love the new look. Never had even the smallest desire for a Daytona.
Thanks Rolex - Time to call AD to wait indefinitely. |

Yes, the new movement is the biggest concern for me. If they’ve imported all those lovely amplitude issues that affect some 32xx’s then that would be a disaster.

Hopefully, the new version is really 40mm. Otherwise, I don’t see that much of a difference.

The 12 series Daytona metal perimeter around the ceramic bezel makes no sense in design or even practical function. Its where most daily impacts occur and now it will show scratches and dents next to the more resilient ceramic edge? It will be extremely hard to touch up those dents and scratches. It cheapens the look of the watch and gives the impression Rolex needed a metal supporting trim for their ceramic bezel. The 4130 movement didn’t need any improvements which is also scary as hell in what Rolex changed?? That could be a even bigger disaster very few are even wrapping their heads around just yet.

I like a lot of things about the newer design. The slimmer indices, vintage chrono rings and (finally) a symmetrical case for the steel versions. I am not sure about the ring around the bezel and cant tell if one side of case is polished and other is brushed?

The new Daytona is improved visually in all aspects, I'd say. Even the new metal edged bezel makes it look more sophisticated.
I get though why people think it sucks and that it will ding up way easier than the old version. However, while the edges might be softer, it will also be less brittle and thus should have less chances of shattering. I assume - and this is pure speculation - that Rolex noticed quite a few of those broken bezels and decided to make it more durable that way. Also since it's such a small area around the bezel, I believe scratches and dings will remain visually quite hidden when looking at the watch. Might even be quite cheap and easy to replace the metal carrier during a service. |

I love it. I'm glad I didn't yet get the call for my 116506. Now I can get the baguettes combined with the chestnut sub dials. Need a call for a 126506. I'm stoked.

Love the new Daytona, I was going back and forth but like others stated, like the nod to the Zenith Daytona. It will likely also wear better with the wider casing
