Thinking of 4100 - Is my logic faulty?
Hey guys!
I've been looking in to vintage Royal Oaks for a few months now for a few reasons. First, I have a 7 inch wrist and like wearing 36mm watches. I hate crowns that dig in to my list and thought my 36mm date just was the perfect size. Second, I love the two toned examples. I know that's an unpopular opinion, but I think it looks great on that design. And last, I love the thin profile. So I looked at 4100's and 14790's. With these I know it's about buying the seller essentially. However I see lots on Chrono in Europe that have been serviced by their own watchmakers. I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger on a 14790 hoping service has been done correctly etc. I was thinking of picking up a 4100 on the lower end of the range, not perfect but with warranty from the seller. Of course I do this knowing that when I send it in the movement will be replaced, possibly dial and hands, refinishing etc. The bonus to that is when that happens I essentially get a new that I now know the history of. The cost of a cheaper 4100 plus the service should be similar to a nicer example where I'm still unsure of the service. And I would get to wear it a year or two before that service hopefully. Anyway, if you see any reasons why this doesn't make sense, I'd love to hear it. I'm new at the royal oak thing. Happy New Year! |
