quite some Patek related threads going on
therefore this one :-)
This is imo the most beautifull watch they made the last decade(s) It is just perfect. If you love chonographs this is the Holy Grail. Superb case, amazing dial, 42 mm so imo a great size. Not too small like most PP but than again not a silly 50 mm. Big or small wrist, 42 mm can be worn by anybody. And ofcourse let's not forget the wonderfull finished movement. So, to answer a question from another thread 'why does somebody buy a patek ? well, imo it it THE brand to get. 15 or 20 years ago I started with 1 Rolex. The SS submariner. I saved a lot for that submariner because I still went to school, so I earned it with some jobs i did after school and during weekends. I think I saved almost 1 year LOL Anyway, years later i bought more watches , mostly sportswatches. I went to AD who sold Patek because I worshipped Patek but didn't feel old enough to buy one yet (I was around 25 years) I had the feeling a Patek was like a Jaguar, great but not when you're 25 :-) If I had the money I would have bought a Porsche instead of a Jag and an offshore instead of the Patek ;-) So I knew I would buy one one day , but not yet :) Years later when I was around 30 I saw the 5070. It was love at first sight ! This was the Patek to get Only the price was too high for me. So i saved a lot and sold of lot of watches I bought in the previous years. I ordered this 5070 and had to wait 18 another months for delivery. But when I got it somwhere at the end of 2006 I knew I made the right decission. Gave up a lot of watches but this wonderfull piece was worth every cent. Now, 3 years later I still love it as much as the first day I received it. I will never sell it. So if you're in the same situation, GO FOR IT, you won't regret it

ditto that...WOW...
I am actually excited for you that you got the "grail" of chronos...and that you saved and scratched for it... I have tried to tell my wife..its like putting money in the mattress..only you can wear it...(needless to say..NO GO)... If I recall correctly, they no longer make the R...and the movement is just intricate... congrats...again... brings a smile to my face...really...

indeed, it even gives you much more pleasure when you really had to work for it. Being rich must be fun and handy but I'm sure I appreciate my watch much more than somebody who earned it in 2 days :-)

Yeah I know what you mean there, a true achievement to look back on all of that and see how much hard work you put in, and how far you came. This is also why i'll never sell any of my current watches. In your case was worth it considering what you got!

I would agree that is THE grail watch. I prefer white gold but other than that its perfect. I often ponder my dream collection if my funds were unlimited...even if i had the ability to spend $1,000,000 on a single watch...the pinnacle of my collection would be the 5070g. It doesnt even have a date, or a bracelet, but it just grabs me like no other.
In my opinion the 5070 makes the existence of any more expensive watch somewhat unnecessary. |

Such craftsmanship, such beauty, with a watch like that I would be afraid to wear it every day - and feel a fool if I didn't war it every day,. That is such a fine piece congratulations.

that platinum piece isn't mine but just like with the Skymoon tourbillon my AD gave me a call , telling me that something I would love to see arrived He knows the 5070 is my all time favorite watch so he thought I would love to see the 5070P And he was right pure beauty ! the same as another 5070 at first sight but the platinum case and blue sunburst dial gives it a complete other look. Don't know how to describe it but the 5070R gives you a warm feeling while this platinum piece is pure coolness And like 'Iwantagmt' I feel the same about those 5070's. If somebody would give me a few 100K, I would not buy 1 supercomplicated patek with tourbillon and repeater but I would buy the 4 different 5070's I wouldn't have to think 1 second about that so here is the 5070 I saw more or less 1 year ago

WOW! This topic is out of this world! Have to agree with that too. I am not a fan of 1 single watch for so much money. Obsessed with Quantity, if one could get a few (4) grails for the prieof one i'm the type would without any hesitation go for the 4 watches.

Bruno, that is a great story, its always nice to read about someone who has worked hard for their watches.
And in your case your beautiful 5070R. My grail would have to be the 5970P or G.

this thread is sooo warm...I feel so good having seen this thread...it talks about the grail chrono in a very humanly way, not super-rich, ultra-cool attitude but the efforts to get there and then appreciate that masterpiece..brought a big smile to my face...thnx Bruno and all :D

And if I may add, it's nice to see over the past year how much this site has expanded in terms of an appreciation for all brands. So often, people jump toward other brands and declare themselves to be 'beyond Rolex'. It's refreshing to see so many people here who don't see it as an EITHER/OR, but rather as ROLEX and... Because if you like watches, you like watches.

Here is a 5970 that I tried on. It belongs to a friend of mine. They are beautiful timepieces for sure.
