226570 AR crystal vs 216570 crystal (non AR)

I am thinking of trying to pick up a grey EXPII, but the lack of AR coating on the 216570 makes me lean towards the newer model (the lack of AR on my 116710 makes it practically unreadable in some lights).

Can anyone please share any photos of the 216570 and the 226570 outside that show how bad/good the old polar is compared to the new one?

I traded my grey xii 21 for a brand new AD xii 22. But nothing to do with the AR. Better bracelet proportions. Movement. And now I’m glad to here about the AR!

Here’s sun pictures of both (I’ve never noticed a difference)

Here goes a photo of a 226570 (polar dial, left) next to a 216570 (black dial, right)

Notice the back dial appears somewhat "hazy" while the white dial "pops", under the same lighting conditions.

I think you're overthinking it.

This is exactly what I was thinking might be the case. I dislike the refraction you get from the lack of AR coating on most Rolexes (what you call 'hazy') -- my 116710 has it and it makes it far less legible in almost all lights.

I was thinking of picking up a 216570 to avoid the 32** movement issue, but the lack of AR coating is a big problem for me.

That 226570 is far clearer.

I find the glare quite distracting. Most of my watches recently have been either domed or an AR coating — I am finding the lack of it on my 116710 to be very irritating.

Just the AR addition seems to be enough improvement to make the upgrade. Wonder if someone had fitted, if it’s compatible, the newer AR sapphire of the 226570 on the older 216570 model

I concur. In terms of actually using the watch daily, the AR coating is very important. The question is whether or not it’s worth the potential 32** movement drama. I suspect the latter will be resolved at some stage by Rolex, but that’ll never fix the lack of the former on the 216570.

I saw my pal the other day, he has the new 41mm sub, and it was significantly more legible than my 116710.

I just had my 2019 SD43 crystal swapped out for an AR coated new one at my AD. $160. Call RSC Dallas and see if an AR coated version is available for your reference.

So the new SD43s have the AR coated? I hadn't heard of that! I believe you, but Are there any official references on this?

I own for a few months a black face EXII 22-serie which I have bought BNIB.

It is really a fantastic watch with the AR and bracelet update!

Only thing is that I am somewhat uncertain about is the future development of the movement…. How it stands on longer term….
It runs now after a few month wearing -5 seconds per day. Totally ok for me.
For now very happy!

I would assume that all current references are leaving the factory with AR coated crystals.
