Help needed guys. Real Yachtmaster??

Hi guys a friend of mine knows I'm interested in watches & in passing conversation said a guy he knows is selling his Yachtmaster. Put me in touch with him & as we're quite far apart have been communicating by text / pics

How's this look to you guys? I'm not an expert on YM's to be honest.

My friend hasn't a clue about watches & this guy is just an acquaintance if his. Any help really appreciated!!

The rehaut engraving at the 12 o'clock mark looks extremely poor, but could just be the pictures. You should have posted this in the Watchout! section. Plus, why does one YM come with 5 instruction manuals for different watches?

He is a bit of a trader of watches by all accounts & was a picture he sent to show it has all boxes etc I guess not to sure. Maybe it was a pic he sends people interested in buying one of his watches I couldn't really say.

Well alarm bells ring to me, something's a miss, you don't get old papers like that with a new engraved rehaut model. Also note he seems to get a new style warranty card that looks blank therefore a fake, unless photoshopped. I doubt the last photo has anything to do with the watch, I see no evidence of any link between the two at this time, don't rush, ask for a photo of the warranty showing the serial on it and the serial on the rehaut and if he can, pop the caseback off and photograph the movement with a piece of paper beside it with today's date and his name written on it in the background of these photos. Be careful, gather some more info, ask a few more questions. IMHO

Sound advice above I'd follow it - buy the seller when buying the watch if you don't even know him at all be aware.

How compelling is this watch that you want to buy it in this manner?

How far away are you 2? Maybe just meet at an AD to have it authenticated if it's not too bad.

I own this model, here are some photos I took of my watch.

Something look a bit strange in the rehaut in the photo you uploaded but maybe as it's the photo angle.

Straight away the bezel looks wrong. Too much margin on the inside. Seriously unlucky if your friend has Yachty money in that thing.

Thanks people much appreciated.

Just got hold of my jeweller who's on holiday in Barbados so didn't want to bother him. Sent him pics via whatsapp to get back to me in his own time. His reply > PROCEED WITH CAUTION

Coupled with what you guys said I think I'll swerve it.

Thanks very much you lovely people.

All these definitive statements based on some really poor pictures.

This is the best advice, although it really doesn't have to be an AD; any decent jeweler could pull the back and authenticate it for you...

I would steer clear. Those rehaut engravings give it away. Reps are getting better... but they have not perfected rehaut engraving.

the crown is not flush on the back against the case and the rehaute is off. it might be a real band with a clone head. they're popping up more since the lug area is not serial numbered anymore. i'd walk.

Seems to me that the 3 and the 0 should be split by the six stick if the arrow is centered on the twelve above.

No, these pics are fine and give away this is a poor fake, there are much better ones of the YM than this which would require a watchsmith.

Blank card and a wrong cert and a bunch of manuals. It looks like there are paperwork for more than one watch.

There's a pic of a Submariner on the same floor in your photobucket. Did the same guy send you that photo too?

it looks good to me until...held my known authentic yacht master next to the images...the engraving looks funky, the card could have photoshopped white box...but thats a bad idea, and the crown looks unscrewed in the the rear view vs screwed in but not totally in the front view....all the more to 'buy the seller and get it authenticated' and the bezel looks a bit wonky but its easy to get distortion of oblique on these close ups...
