Black OP39 hard-to-find?
Hi all - I've been chatting with a couple of ADs in NYC, and one just quoted me 4 months for a black OP39. This was after I made a 20% deposit. Even for Rolex, I was a bit shocked at the timeline for a reference that I thought was pretty easy-to-get.
I know that we're living in a uniquely crazy world and that even pre-Covid Rolex had supply/demand imbalance. Also aware that I could just "go grey" in the Diamond District and probably pay about the same price if you think about paying their premium instead of sales tax, but I just like the idea of getting from an AD. Anyways - all of this is to say, is 4 months for a black OP39 as insanely long as it feels? Or is this just the world we live in? |

Visited two ADs last week - no OP39s in any color at either one of them. With stainless sports models hard to come by, it seems that people are looking at the OP39 as an alternative. The grey market prices on those have steadily increased over the past 2 years.

It’s probably one of the more common pieces to stumble across in an AD by chance, but the situation sounds to be similar here in the UK according to two of my local ADs. As mentioned above the scarcity of the SS sports models is making people look at alternatives in the line up. The black and white dials are both also very nice, are priced well and I think have become quite popular amongst WIS and non-WIS alike...
The Covid situation has probably also made things worse, with manufacture and supply taking a hit whilst Rolex were closed. If your AD is allowing you to leave a deposit that sounds positive, perhaps see if you can get some guarantee on the delivery date. |

I am not surprised as well. I found none in the metro Atlanta area and reached out to a few ADs in Greenville, Chattanooga and Alabama. No luck. One AD did ask for a 20% deposit without a guaranteed delivery date. On the fence....

OP 39mm is as popular as a Hulk for those who aren't WIS or looking to turn a profit.
Lot's of "entry level Rolex" naysayers on this forum. They'll tell you no wait or can get one tomorrow. But they're likely $150k in to their AD or go grey. Good luck getting what's likely the most popular Rolex model available! |

My local AD don't have OP39's available either. Expression of interest only

Not at all surprised. I fell in love with OP39 long before it became popular. Lowest profile of Rolex watches (unless I’m mistaken), simple yet very versatile. I’m suspecting even after receiving my OG58, it will continue to be my favorite.

It's a scarce watch, and I'm sure it's easy to find somewhere on this planet.

I have the same watch....Rhodium OP39 and I also bought a blue face OP39 for my son. Both are great. Fantastic daily wear watch that spans the range from sports and shorts to suits and boots. The most accurate of all my watches in terms of keeping time. HIghly recommended watch that should hold it's value well and provide a lot of enjoyment.

I added a white OP39 to my collection last May. It was my third Rolex AD purchase and took me several months to get. The AD wouldn’t take the order. I had to keep checking back and expressing interest.
Very difficult model to find - even more so today. |

Saw one in the case two days ago. Funny, because the same AD had another in the case for at least a couple weeks earlier this year. Who knows, perhaps it’s the same one given the length of the shutdown.
