The 5th and final watch (for now)

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping to add a 5205 to my collection. That will take my collection to 4 ‘forever’ watches. I also have a JLC reverso ultra thin omega Seamaster and BLNR, but I’m not sure these will be forever watches.

My question is, if you had these 4, what would be your next watch? I’m tempted by a few but want others opinions. These have all caught my eye

Datograph- I have a small wrist so not sure if too big
Lange 1- not sure if I want something less simple, although I love the watch and size
Patek manual wind chrono - lots I like here.
VC cornes de vache chrono - never held one and not sure I put it ahead of the patek
Patek 3940- hard finding a full set good condition

So what would you add?

Great collection and choices! I am on a similar path and went for the 1815 chrono as it is much more wearable than the datograph. The L1 is also a great option that I hope to add one day. Either way you cant lose with any of your options!

I peefer the 5205 in rose gold. But either way, great collection. Personally, I would add a diver and a GMT but that is just me.

Great collection! I would opt for the ALS Dato. Another fantastic piece on a strap to round out the collection.

Probably not a Rolex general discussion question since your potential pick ups don’t include one, but in the spirit of keeping your thread right here my answer is a PM Sub! WG or yellow, if yellow the blue dial I think would give you a cool diver and cap off a stellar collection.

I'd look at the 1815 Chronograph (thinner, smaller, and more elegant that the Datograph) and the Cornes de Vache.

Cornes de Vache. Adds variety in terms of brand and as manual chrono. Plus the looks are very romantic.

Regarding the CDV, do people favour the steel over the PM

Great collection!

My first thought was 3940 but what it does is covered by the 5205 (which I like a lot less though). I'd be missing a simple strap watch that can get dressed up and down, a Calatrava, a manual VC Traditionelle or a Journe CS/CB. The L1 or a manual chrono wouldn't fill that perceived gap for me.

3940 would be my choice of the lot; had a 3970er 'Hamburger' for many years and enjoyed it when needing a more formal timepiece. As for adding.... guess i wanna ask, do you desire a formalwear timepiece or would you rather have a 'daily beater' for days on the 'beach'?

I'd second this recommendation especially if you're looking at both the Datograph and CdV. It's essentially the same movement as the Datograph's in a slimmer profile and case.

Unless you want an AC, I’d recommend 1815 chrono. I chose this over a PP chrono. Love it. I also have a Lange 1, which I also love (was my first Lange). I also have a smaller wrist (6.75 inches) and the dato was just too big. I knew I wouldn’t wear it much. I also own 3 PP, so don’t have any bias regarding Lange vs Patek.

If you believe the L1 is too simple, consider the L1 moonphase. It has has the same case while having a date, power reserve, moon phase, and day/night indicator. Hardly a "simple" watch.

I'm biased, but would highly recommend the rose gold Cornes de Vache to round out your collection. It's to die for, and will be the one watch I keep should I decide to liquidate all others.

I own 2 of your current collection, the Daytona and the Patek. I have owned an 1815 Chrono and a Grand Lange 1 as well. If I were you I would go with a Vacheron. I have an Overseas DT and it is one of my favorites, especially the easy strap change system. I considered the CDV, but since I already had a chrono I went with a new complication.

The steel is the most practical and is, obviously, priced lower. I prefer the looks of the rose gold the best but I like the heft of the platinum. I looked at all three together and ended up with the platinum, but I'm seriously considering adding the rose gold version too. (My wife thinks I'm crazy.)

I also own a second generation 1815 Chronograph in rose gold but had they made it it platinum, it would have been a tough choice.
