DD40 bracelet adjustment
It was my first time sizing my own Rolex. I decided to size it this time because the AD caused minor scratches on my DJ41 jubilee link and a couple of screws were a bit rough to touch. Nothing compared to the damages I've seen on the forum. Even though I have a background in aviation maintenance, I was a bit nervous.
I did some practice runs on my spare oyster links. I had to get used to looking thru a loupe. I prefer using the 5x vs the 2.5x loupe. Either will work though for sizing a bracelet. It was pretty easy and it was time to adjust the DD40 bracelet. I secured the bracelet on a watch vise made by horotec (see pic). This is better than the regular bracelet holder. It prevents the bracelet from moving around. I applied heat around the screw head for about 30 seconds til it was hot to touch. I used a portable heat gun I purchased from rockauto ($30+). I put tape around the screw head just in case the screw driver slips. The screws loosened with very little effort. The ceramic sleeves didn't give me any issues. I applied a tiny amount of purple loctite on the threads. I ended up removing three links for a 6.5" wrist. Overall, I had fun sizing my own Rolex. I took my sweet time and didn't scratch any links and the screws are damage free. For a DD40, the proper size is 1.4mm if using the horofix screw driver. It fits perfectly. I recommend to size your own bracelet if you don't trust your SA or even the in house watchmaker. I spent a little over a $100 for the proper tools. Have a nice weekend. Great story, and fantastic reference. You give the rest of us hope that something like this can be done at home.
If that’s WG, that would likely end the Rolex quest for me. The only hesitation I have about the DD comes from reading about how it’s difficult to get the right fit- there’s no ‘wiggle’ room. |

Yes, I resize all my Rolex bracelets rather than having the AD do it because I move links around (especially the ½ link that come with dive watches).
I like the bracelet vise. Good score… Now what function does the Performance Tool (PF) do? -Sheldon

That was a concern for me as well, but it fits me well. A bit loose, but wearable. There's room when my wrist swells. Good luck on your Rolex quest. |

The performance tool is a heat gun for releasing the factory loctite.
