If somebody gave you an authentic 10,000 dollar watch for your birthday, though, you have freinds that can certainly help you out..

Okay, I've attached pictures of the watch, though I have no clue how you guys have managed to take the close ups that I've seen on this site, so sorry for the poor quality.

I haven't taken off the plastic protective covering off the band, which is the reason for the scratched look. I'm not sure what numbers would be helpful, but the band has 5678 which is visible in the picture.

On the band itself, it has 18K on it. Isn't this SS? If so, what's gold on it? Also, how do you get the stop watch to work? All the knobs seem to be pretty tight, so I didn't want to do anything stupid and somehow break it.

I read up on the Daytona sticky, but apparently my questions are more newbie than what that offered. I don't wear watches, so going from nothing to a Rolex is a bit of a jump for me.

I am sorry to tell you that this is a complete fake. Most notably the sub dials are shiney metallic when they should not be. i coudl go on but i wont

They say that imitation is the best form of flattery, but i digress on non-authentic Rolex watches since it is disrespectful to us that own authentic ones.

That's not what I wanted to hear, but thanks for the answer.

I was hoping I'd get the answer along the lines of "it looks real to me".

So for my own peace of mind, would I take it to an AD for authentication, or is this more of a "send it to Rolex" type of thing? How much does something like that generally cost?

It is without doubt, a fake!
You can take it to an AD if you wish, they may charge you to view it, but you will still get the same answer with a possible shake of the head......

You're best off taking a hammer to it!

I am sorry to suggets it but dont waste your time. Have a read through and find pictures of real ones , there markings etc and you will realise yours is 'not right' pretty quickly

Did you buy that for yourself or did someone buy it for you?

If you bought it, you had to know its fake. If you paid $1 for it, you paid too much. If you paid any more than that, you got robbed. If someone bought it for you, did it ever occur to wonder why someone would buy you a $11k watch?

Save yourself the embarrassment and don't bother getting it authenticated. It's 100% fake and there is no way around it. Just look at your pics and compare it to pics of real Daytona's.

Well, thanks for the responses. It was given to me as a gift from a person that has a vendor-type relationship with Rolex. I'm surprised by the responses because of this. Oh well, if it's too good to be true...

Is it safe to assume that they didn't tell you its fake? You should ask the person who gave it to you if it's real and where he got it. That would be telling of the kind of friend they really are

So, I didn't want to believe you folks, but after looking up the band numbers, I guess the counterfeiter didn't even bother to get the right numbers on it. From what I understand, the 455B band is for a TT Jubilee, and there is no 5678 band number for Rolex.

I wish I could say that all this knowledge I've gained about Rolex's could be put to good use someday, but since I don't wear watches, I guess this will be filed in the "to forget" section. I'm more upset that the person that gifted this to me didn't tell my up front that it was fake, so I wouldn't have had to go through with this.

Anyway, thanks for your help!

To the untrained eye it would pass. Hell, 98% of people out there wouldnt notice. But its a fake. The reality is that Rolex is the most counterfeited brand out there. And as a result most people see a Rolex and just assume its a fake.

From a movement standpoint, if this has the modified working crono movement that moved the running secs to 6, its a time bomb. They use six extra gears and no jewels to do the mod, so they dont last very long.

Well, I'll give the benefit of the doubt to the person that gave it to me, since he's about 90. The backstory, of which I'm pretty sure he's not lying, made it believable enough that it shouldn't have been fake.

That's alright though, instead of selling the watch for a lot of money like I planned on doing if it was real, I guess I'll pay for the big screen tv and lazy-boy the old fashioned way...by earning it.

I'm not sure what to do with this thing now. Maybe I'll wear it to start getting the feel for a watch again, and move myself up to the good stuff later on.

Since I had made an appointment with the AD already, I took it over there for his opinion. He was nice enough to pull off the band and check the numbers and he said there was no doubt it's fake.

He may have been just trying to be nice, but he did say it was a pretty good replica. So, hooray for tiny victories!
