I’ve never been an RM fan and I think this watch is ugly as hell. That being said it’s interesting from a watchmaking perspective.

I revert back to the age old adage, just because you can do it doesn't mean you should.

Technically very interesting, yet only 10m WP. Sure this RM is impressive, yet am willing to give up a bit of thickness for daily useable 100m WP... at less than 1% the price of the RM.

Am curious the insurance company that would insure this (or any) RM considering their very high theft rate. Anyone know the cost to insure an RM?

I’m undecided about it so far. Initially within the first hour of release I was super disappointed. I wanted something like the RM67 or RM72 case with a prancing horse emblem on it. But after looking at it multiple times overnight and this morning, watching all the videos on it, I’m starting to warm up to it. Still need to see it in person before making a judgement.

The greatest shocker is the price. I was eagerly anticipating it because the previous collaboration with McLaren for the RM11-03 McLaren was priced at $182k. This is 10x the price of the RM11-03 McLaren. Happy for those who get to own one though. I would have gotten on the list (even though very slim chance) if it was $200k.

Agree about the priority of the WR. 100m is the bar for a daily wear.

It was nice to see the octo address this as well

Plenty of insurance companies will insure. My RM72 is insured for $400k at ~$4500, my RM030 at a similar ratio. It becomes more of a challenge if you have a prior claim, which I do not.

Many many more APs, Rolexs, Patek's are stolen than RM, the latter receives more publicity due to the cost.

Certainly some sticker shock but I think not a surprise, look at the RM speedtail, that was a bit over $1M. Still an improvement over Ferrari's past partnership with Hublot and the innovation here is admirable IMO. Agreed on the 67, that would have made the most sense as LeClerc and Sainz both already wear a 67-02. From my understanding, this one has been a long time in the making and there will be more than one RM Ferrari iteration.

But the RM40 was only open for customers with the Speedtail I think and customers get to choose matching number of RM40 with their car chassis number. Still I agree that this is such a cutting edge innovation for RM and hopefully it will trickle down to more affordable models.

Huh? Can't you just wind it by hand? Isn't that a necessity for a manual wind watch?

I'm just guessing but because the watch is so thin, conventional winding may not be possible.

like the Lange 31, you probably need a tool to do the winding. Whether that is going to be a mechanical ratcheting device like the special winding tool for the Lange 31, or an electromechanical method, where there is no physical interface between the winder and the spring, I don't know.

If you hold the thing the wrong way or wind too hard, I can see the whole watch becoming a uselessly small pile of precious materials worth $0.10 in no time.

It looks like it could be wound with finger pressure.
Kind of like some old dunhill lighter gas fill caps.

May be inefficient but could get job done if tool was not available.

RM UP-01 Ferrari

Yawnski AF I would rather have a 67, 35, 72 or 11 hands down.

Saw that, so you just press down and twist the circular bit with your finger? Almost looks like there's some external tool needed.

Added: Ahh so a tool is included, makes sense now.

Am glad RM sponsors many race events, giving back to the sport, so I can see how their pricing scheme supports racing events.

It is a technologically amazing movement in a watch that is not meant for the mainstream.

Most important factor for ultra thin watches is not WR.. it is shock resistant.. here UP-01 can handle as much as 5,000G ! That to me is a technical breakthrough. For those who can easily afford the $1.9m price tag like how I buy a Casio, UP-01 certainly is a must have. I am sure 150 pcs easily sold out.

The on the wrist shots blew me away.

For sizing perspective, my RM dealer sent me this pic of the watch against a credit card to show how thin the watch is. Putting subjective aesthetics aside, truly is an incredible engineering marvel.

If you’re thinking of spending 2m on this call me up and I’ll swing by and kick you in the nuts for Pennies on the dollar.

All fun and kidding aside, and yeah it's cheating needing an external tool to wind it...

Let's be kind and realize RM needs the money to keep sponsoring sports events that Rolex doesn't. Let's cheer RM buyers for their generosity, especially during this financial downturn, for helping RM during this time when sports sponsorship in Euros doesn't go as far as it did just a year ago.

Who here is getting one from their dealer? 7sins, when is yours arriving?

I’d love to see Pogacar win The Tour and roll into Paris sporting one of these. Granted it’d probably be an exhibition version, but close enough.

Haha wasn't offered one, they have more VIP clients this would go to long before me and you know, could use those funds to buy a house or two.
