I was looking at buying a new hydroconquest. What is the feeling on Longines quality? I own omega and Toudor divers and thought about giving this a try. The price and name look like a good bang for the buck.

As far as I know they're pretty good in terms of quality. I'm not an expert in the brand but I didn't hear bad comments about their movements!

If I'm not mistaken, they use basic ETA movements. Some of their heritage remakes, like the conquest and the diver, look nice.

From what I'm reading online, it seems as if the brand was once highly regarded. It is now under the swatch group. Maybe a step down from the Omega line.

Since Omega is pushing into Rolex's territory... I think Swatch's pretty much using Longines to fill the Omega's gap

Longines use to be a well respected name in haute horlogerie with the likes of PP and VC back before the Quartz crisis hit. They use to make in-house movements. But when swatch bought them up Nicolas Hayak Sr. consolidated all the brands movement into using only ETA movements to save the Swiss watch making industry. Now ETA is producing some movements that are only for the Longines Brand like the column chrongraph. Hope that help.

I have a Longines Hydroconquest Divers Automatic watch about 4 years old now and has an ETA movement in. It keeps great time,within COSC limits although it is not a chronometre,it is as good as my TT SubC for time keeping.A great watch and is about £820($1230)list although you can get them cheaper.

I have 3 Longines watches, the Admiral Divers I used in the military and have deployed OS with including Mil bubble time.

A good and reliable watch.

ETA movement so no problem getting serviced in the future, I've had the Admiral for almost 20 years.

If the price is right and you like the watch go for it.

My understanding was that Longines was the flagship brand for ASUAG (which includid Oris and Rado)...

When Swatch merged and moving forward chose a flagship brand - it came down to Omega vs Longines....and Of course Omega got the Nod...

Again - an expert can/should clarify, as this is kind of a dumbed down 'rumor mill' type explanation, but that is what I understand...

Longines - Rich History, nice watches, but sits on a specific tier in the hierarchy...

Longines are good watches. I have a Hydroconquest Chrono and along with one of the replies above, mine keeps COSC time even though not rated as a chronometer. Build quality is very good, strong value for the price.

Have had this Longines for over 12 years and can't really say anything bad about it. IMO it is of very good quality.

They are great watches. I am personally a great fan of Swatch products from Tissot to Omega. The fact that all of these watch brands and ETA have been saved is great and only pushes Rolex to get better. I would buy a Longines any day of the week. And not to mention, you just dont see them around that much, so you get a level of exclusivity to boot.

I have a Longines Hydro Conquest automatic chronograph with the Valjoux 7750 movement, and I love it. It's very well made and is COSC accurate.

I had a Longines HydroConquest Automatic and thought that it offered quite much for the price. If something needs improving, I thought that the details were not of a very high class.

They are solidly built watches. I have a collection, mostly vintage. In addition to these I have a newer Flagship automatic which runs like a dream.

Like S ' ' said, they are not quite as highly regarded as Omega, but definitely are considered a luxury brand.

They are definitely a good bang for the buck.

Back in the 50's 60's and 70's superb watches, now just another ETA movement watch trading on a previously excellent reputation. The first prestige watch I ever had was a lovely 50's Longines with a mother of pearl dial, was gorgeous. And my girlfriend bought me one about 10 years ago, however that had none of the style quality and class of the vintage Longines and went back within 24 hours.

I have a LLD ND and I found the quality to be quite good. given its not a complicated time piece, but everything is put together nicely and it felt solidly put together.

If there quality can last 66 years I guess you can say they have good quality.Here is my only Longines in the collection.A Czech Longines issued to the Czech Air Force from 1938-1947.Mine was made in 1946 and still keeps great time.

And it has a great looking movement.

I had a Legend Diver and enjoyed it.
One night my wife and I were out to dinner and
I saw a client who noticed the watch and bought it
right off my wrist... It was OK with me as he let me
wear his ROO Chrono since he couldn't wear two watches haha.
He still has it and is very happy but did buy other straps.

I have a Master Collection 4X Retrograde 44mm and I love it. Keeps great time and has a very distinctive look. I get a lot of compliments when I wear it. IMO they are great pieces if you are not looking to spend Rolex type money-

Yeah well good luck, I have 2 and while they are nice watches they're not IMO the same level as Rolex…

i know this is an old thread, but, the above is very cool.

longines may not be "premium luxury", but, it has a very long and worthy horlogical history. some real treasures in the catalogue.
