Hi all, was wondering for for some advice in buying my first rolex. Tried a number of models on yesterday and I am so excited to get one. Looking at the Explorer 39mm 214270 or the Oyster Perpetual 39mm 114300, wondering if anyone has such models and can offer some advice? Or if there are any alternatives at a similar price, but I don't want to go up in size to a Submariner of GMT Master.

I really enjoy my 114300. Lightweight but solid at the same time. It's a pleasure to wear.

i have the 114300 its really amazing its the first watch i ever bought and the first watch i ever wore and i really like the elegant look on it . i cant wait to see what i buy for a back up watch !!!!

Hi all, thanks for the messages!

It's for my 21st / graduation. Love the picture your 114300, I have only tried it with the red grape dial which I don't particularly like. The dark rhodium looks amazing, although I think i'd consider blue also. The history of the Explorer has appealed to me also and once trying that on it felt amazing.
However I still have a long decision to make and appreciate all your comments, thanks so much.

Best value and wearability for you would be an explorer 1 or 2...
Most bang for the buck in the line. Very easy to find a great used
Example for $3000...

Personally for your age. I would go with a Sub type rolex. It will never go out of style and has a younger feel to it.

Im only 28 years old and thats the way i feel about it.

Both models you mentioned do not have a date complication so I'm assuming that's not important to you. If you are willing to go to 39mm then a Sub 114060 would not be a huge jump in size and while not the cheapest, is on the lower end of the price scale. The bezel is more resistant to scratches and seeing as you are new to this and may not stay with it, the Sub likely will have the better resale.

But of the two you mentioned, I'd go with the Explorer personally. I prefer the smooth bezel. I like the OP dial but then again I like the black dial on the Explorer too. Not a huge fan of arabic numerals on Rolex, but that's one of the few things that makes it an Explorer and at least it's only 3-6-9. But it really is a pretty much just a dial/bezel choice.
