why no love for VC 1955 cornes de vache?
Hi guys,
I have followed the VC 1955 cornes de vache stainless steel for quite a while. I see it as a beautiful chronograph, but it seems not highly appreciated by the market when the price keeps going south. Any thoughts why? |

There’s plenty of love for the 1955. I would see it as an opportunity to buy a fantastic watch at a great price. That’s what I did.

Maybe because it doesn't look very good?

I love it in the photos, but when I tried it in the flesh it just really didn't sparkle for me. Definitely one to see before you buy, but a really quality watch all the same.

Absolutely beautiful! I have also thought about adding a RG one at some point.

Glad to see some love for CdV. I agree that one should try it first because the lug is not for everyone taste.

The lugs are what make this watch. I can get straight or simple lugs everywhere. Not this. Some vintage Pateks or current Voutilainen have somewhat similar lug design. I love them.

Nice watch but nothing special for me that would move me toward a purchase.

I have one and love it. A manual dress chronograph is not everyone’s cup of tea as it is always at a higher price point and for the price, most people would pick up a Daytona. Most watches resell at significantly less than SRP in secondary market and the CDV have been in the market for a while so the novelty factor is gone and price would drift down and eventually settle at some equilibrium point. Another example is the Patek 5172.
As others have said, this is a good time to pick one up in the secondary market and enjoy it. |

It's a gorgeous watch. If it doesn't have hype, so much the better for those in the know.

Price is often not an indicator of the truly fine things in life. It's a remarkable watch.

This is the SS version. The platinum has been discontinued and now left with pink gold and SS only.

Love the watch. The thing that makes being a watch geek great is there are many incredible watches that the mainstream will never appreciate. We get to buy those on the cheap and pretend we are cooler than other people wearing their Daytonas (even though it’s horse crap we made up).

This is what makes the hobby so great to me it's a great looking watch because of the lugs. Something for everyone out there.

I tried it on
I did not care for the lugs and found the hands hard to pick up quickly against the dial color on the SS model. The lugs make the watch look like its crying to me... I have 6.8 in wrists and I think the lugs would be less dramatic in my eyes on a bigger wrist. It's a very nice watch but for a big 3 chrono Im looking at the Patek 5172, its just more my style. Yes I recognize they are not in the same price range, but Id rather wait for the one I love.
