Icon2 50th Anniversary GMT II pre-owned......

I can't believe this.... here's a Melbourne AU 'grey' watch dealer who already has a pre-owned TT 50th Anni GMT II up for sale!

I'd love to know the provenance and why the original buyer flipped it.

His price is in Aussie dollars BTW.

Maybe he believes in the rumor that the SS version is coming out soon.

not EVERY model is going to appeal to EVERY buyer...

He probably saw a Leopard Daytona and HAD TO HAVE IT.

Nuh uh. Just two months ago I went the Singaporean AD where I got my SD, and I was offered one for S$11,000 (A$9167) straight out. Take the 3% GST out of it passing through the airport and the price would be A$8899 without the least bit of bargaining.

Steve and I are familiar with Antiquorum, and I doubt he'd recommend those pirates either.

I can never understand this sort of thing.
It happens with cars a lot too.
Why get rid of a car or watch in under 3 months etc....
They must have more money than sense as they must loose money hand over fist
The dealers must love these them.

My AD pulled one out of the back for me to try on last week. Beautiful piece. It was going for list, but I can't afford it right now.

to some people 3 months is a long time... I mean, wearing and showing off the newest model probably pales for these types... as soon as they see another newer more updated version.

I shouldn't even critisize... most of my g/f s don't make it past 10 weeks.

maybe because they buy on impulse.....because Tom and Harry bought one.....because they want to be the first kid on the block with the new toy...or for some people maybe because they cant afford the payment.
When the glitter subsides and the novelty wears off its time for something else.

Geez....sounds like NZ is the place to go.
I've always wanted to visit. Maybe now I can convince the wife to take a vacation.
Of course, I'd need to pick up a little "token" to remember the trip

It would be worth your holiday, Lucas. You not only get to see a very beautiful country, but you can pick up a Rolex (or any watch for that matter) for a superb price and even better when you take it out of Auckland International Airport - TAX FREE!!

Cheers - JJ

The seller in Melbourne of the TT always puts a significant premium on the sale price of late model Rolex watches, such as the green sub and now it would appear the TT GMT. They do this on the basis that you pay and you get it now or your only other alternative is to wait and maybe one day you will find one in an AD and then you will have to pay retail anyway. This shop does have premises in a premium location in the CBD and so I guess they have to pay the rent somehow. They do rely on the less informed and seasoned Rolex purchasers.

I was in that shop in Melbourne very recently

and was wearing my new TT GMT. The guy in the shop indicated that he was getting one the same as mine in for sale soon. He said the owner had a very wealthy friend who owned call centers in India and who always flipped his new watches after a couple of months. Didn't care that he lost a bundle on each deal. So when you get that evening call from someone in India trying to sell you something..you know where the profits are going!!

Very politically correct, Steve!

I'll stick to calling the bugger a pirate - it saves breath.

Yup - the guy's premium isn't worth the homework you save. I've seen the guy's ads too - he offers a pitiful amount to private sellers and then loads the prices on the other end. Not someone I would do business with.

Me neither. I don't agree with that sort of way of doing business. At the end of the day I'd still get the watch checked out anyway too, I just think you can never be sure.

Thanks, I'll think about it JJ.

There's a cruise ship going that way in Feb2008 which we are considering. I think it docks in AKL for a day. Who knows, we may be on it.

Is the 2 tone GMT II 50 anniversary supposed to be hard to find? I saw one in the display window of DeVon's Jewelry in Arden Fair Mall in Sacramento California last Friday afternoon around 5 p.m.
