Next on the list with the AD - Buy the 126600?

AD just called and I'm next on the list the SD43. Most likely buying as an investment piece and don't want to unseat my SubC. Worth the speculation to be an investment piece, or just pass and don't deal with the hassle and risk of selling down the road. Thoughts??

I would never buy a modern watch for "investment" unless it's a stainless Daytona. Objectively speaking.

Watches are never good investments(well let’s say rarely). First you have to find a trustworthy buyer. Then you think risk vs reward. Sure you can make quick money, but then if your ad sees you are a flipper, you may not get the call next time. It’s a slippery slope. YMMV

I can’t speak for all, but my AD tells me that if Rolex finds out a customer flips a hard to get watch that they will cut back their allocation of harder to get sport models. My AD said all hard to get watches now have to have the plastic removed and warranty filled out before the watch leaves the door.

How long before you plan to sell it?

What rate of return are you expecting to get?

I think supply is catching up to demand. I wouldn't buy one unless I intended to wear it.

it would unseat the sub, better in every way. buy it wear it and sell the sub

My pie-in-the-sky hope is that we find out that the red text goes away in the near future and the watch becomes significantly more valuable. I'm not necessarily looking to flip it tomorrow, but feel like there is little downside since the watch is trading over retail in the aftermarket. I expectation would be that I could sell it in a couple of hours at retail, and possible a few days at a profit of $1-$2k.

If you think you can make 1-2K in a couple of years...then go for it :). Then again, it might take you 20 years to break even because the model is not rare :)

my suggestion...take that money and put it in stock like AMZN or GOOG. You can make more money than selling a watch.

I would buy the SD43 and sell the SubC, or keep both if you don’t need the cash. Is it a good investment? I don’t think so, there’re better options out there with better ROIs. If I had to choose between the SubC and SD43, I’d keep the SD43. I think it will hold its value better than the SubC down the road.

From my own observation at my AD, he's getting one every week from Rolex Canada.

I think these are starting to make their way in and won't be so hard to get anymore.

The rumour of Rolex going from the red to white writing to me is just that, a rumour. I don't think this is any sort of collectors watch.

SD43 is overpriced right now because of the hype/scarcity; in a few years it will be more available. If you want a real investment piece get the SD4000 in mint condition and keep it that way, it was only made for 3 years, and is pretty unique.

If SubC fits you well, I would not add a SD43 unless you really like a larger size. One or the other will be redundant.

I prefer the SD43 to the Submariner. I know that you have said that you would pass but I would give it a try and see if it works. If it does you have a new cool watch, if not, you break even or make a little.

When the market stabilizes (which will be pretty soon), that and basically every other Sports watch (with the exception of Daytonas) will be selling at retail and with discounts, plus they won't be so hard to get. Never invest in luxury items that it's profitability depends on market hype and/or speculations. Buy it to wear it and enjoy it.
