16800 listed on eBay

Saw this. Looks absolutely fake to me, thought itd get shut down. But now its up to almost $5000 with 32 bidders. It cant be real though right, a terrible fake?

Yeah right? It doesnt even say "swiss made" on the dial. Indecies arent on straight. How are 32 bidders $5000 certain its legit? Blows my mind.

From my side, I could not correctly justify from lousy photos if it was genuine or fake
Therefore I never reported.
Strange to me, that other members that usually wade in about 30th post shouting "OBVIOUS FAKE - A BLIND MAN COULD TELL"

If you right click the pics and open them in a new window or tab, you can manipulate the url to show a larger version. I believe the watch is genuine but with a very poorly refinished or aftermarket dial. The bracelet is good and also has the correct date stamp for the age of the watch.

I see what Gladiator is saying. Those pics are terrible. The 16800 is one of my favorite Subs and I own a 1983 one. Where to start on the pic. There is so much wrong with it that its crazy to list. But it could be someone who just decided not to go with Rolex doing the work on it. There are questions I have that would make me run from the watch. The dial is fake. The bezel insert is fake. The big thing to me is the holes for the spring bars. They are way to close to the bottom corner and they are too large. That could mean a lot of things. Someone could had tried to polish and modify the case and completely messed it up. But with all that said and all the red flags it wouldn't be worth the money to buy it. It would cost you too much to bring it back to the watch it should be.

He does say in the listing and has a "poor" quality picture of the original dial. So confirmation that is minimally changed.

"***RELISTED DUE TO NON-PAYING BUYER*** Estate find Rolex Submariner 16800 circa 1983, movement caliber 3035. Watch appears to be in great condition and keeping good time, service history unknown. Comes with box, Rolex Submariner anchor, red Rolex hang tag and one extra bracelet link; no paperwork. Very nice Oyster SS bracelet. Sapphire crystal is in good condition. The bezel has some minor scratches between 11 and 12 o'clock and between 6 and 8 that aren't very evident in the photos. I've had this watch checked out and guarantee it to be 100% authentic. This is a NO RESERVE auction. I describe all my items to the best of my ability, I welcome and encourage any questions you may have. See my feedback, bid with 100% confidence."

I don't think you are looking at the right watch. That is all he saids in his post. There is no picture of the orig dial because he saids that it IS the orig dial and all of the watch is. This is also relisted. I believed that the watch is not what it is suppose to be. Too much questions. The price it sold for I would buy from a trusted seller here on TRF.

Weird, I guess your right. I didn't notice that it said the listing is removed and then ebay website thought it was smart and substituted this one with a minimal "tagging" to indicate it was a substitute for small phone and old eyes. This might be why I usually use the eBay app or my 27" thunderbolt monitor.

Well the dial is certainly aftermarket, as he lists the original one as well. Also thats a quite common dial to use.

I think he got caught by the same ebay "trick" that had me looking at the wrong watch.

Yea. I think so. On my computer I can look back at the sell. But on my phone it takes me to a 16800 with a 16803/16613 dial on it.
