Vintage SEIKO Lord Quartz Day/Date (1979)

The short-lived Lord Quartz line of upper-mid-range watches was introduced in 1978 and discontinued in 1981. It was positioned by Seiko just below Grand Quartz and King Quartz (formerly Grand Seiko and King Seiko), but some models were more expensive than King Quartz.

Introduced in 1979, the Lord Quartz 7143 movement promised -/+ 10 secs per month and a five-year battery life, compared to only two or three years for the King Quartz and Grand Quartz movements.


Condition

This is a particularly nice example of a 7143-7020 day/date with a caseback engraving commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Okayama Kimuraya Bakery.

The thin 34mm x 8mm case is in great shape, as are the textured dial and all three hands. The Hardlex crystal has no scratches or chips.

The original XNB 060 bracelet still fits the case perfectly, with solid endlinks and firm clasp closure.

The hacking 7143 quartz movement has a quickset day and date (with choice of English or Japanese days) and keeps excellent time, apparently gaining about 8 seconds per month. A new battery was recently installed.
