MING 29.01 Worldtimer

MING just teased a new watch here - https://www.ming.watch/journal/pre-l...-01-worldtimer

Quote:
With the onset of spring, it is our pleasure to announce that our first release for 2023 - the MING 29.01 Worldtimer - will be this Wednesday, 5 April at 1PM GMT.

29.01 will debut a new case family - bridging the 19-series sapphire-sandwich concept with the flying blade lugs from the 20-series. We didn’t stop there, of course, the watch is filled with all the processes and refinements developed since the 19.02.

It features sapphire hands, copious amounts of HyCeram, a rotating dial and our new, second-generation movement by Schwarz Etienne. Full details and pictures will be available at www.ming.watch on 5 April at 1PM GMT, or:

* 6AM in San Francisco
* 9AM in New York
* 2PM in London
* 3PM in Geneva
* 5PM in Dubai
* 9PM in Kuala Lumpur
* 10PM in Tokyo
* 11PM in Melbourne

We will be making 100 pieces of this reference, and it is priced at CHF 19,500 with a 50% deposit required for order confirmation. Deliveries will begin March 2024.

Ahead of the full reveal on Wednesday, we’d like to share a teaser video featuring a special piece by Lisa Lloyd to mark the launch of the 29.01. We met Lisa at The Art Biennale in Venice last year and asked her to re-interpret a watch through her unique medium, and the result of this collaboration is in the video below.

As always and if you have any additional questions, we remain at your disposal at hello@ming.watch.

- Team MING

*
I love the sapphire sandwich case design of the 19 series, so I'll be curious to see how they evolved that design.

was their lead time after the announcement usually a year? this just reminded me I put a deposit for a watch I don't even remember what I ordered....maybe I'm just a weenie but it's become harder to get excited for these releases that have a long lead time.

I hate the idea of putting a huge chunk of cash down only to wait at least one year. Sounds like I’m giving the watch company an interest free loan

I think the Watch industry in general has lost the ground and mind with these prices

Curious to see this release but not putting my money in their safe

Hmmm, at $20k it'll be interesting to see why. Maybe enamel works and lots of hand decoration.

40mm by 11.9mm in titanium. First pic reminds me of the 5230P maybe because of the blueness. Movement comes from Schwarz-Etienne.

Price: CHF 19,500
Availability: Available for pre-order at 9 a.m. ET. Delivery beginning March 2024.
Limited Edition: 100 pieces

Why have GMT and London together? They are admittedly the same at times but currently we are in British Summer Time so London is GMT +01:00?

Would be better to just have London surely?

Interesting timepiece. The inner lugs look unique.

They're still available.

How about back-to-basics time only with Ming TRON classic dial for $2k? Or $1k with a good Seiko movement.

I think MING balances their higher end pieces (like this one) with a lot of excellent accessible pieces. The roughly $2k 17.09 is a fantastic watch, and the $3.5k 37.07 was very cool too.

While the first MING watch was technically the $900 MING 17.01, they followed that release with the first MING in their higher price tier, which was the roughly $7.5k MING 19.01 (https://watchesbysjx.com/2019/04/min...ch-review.html).

Plenty of choices of watches (including Rolex) at a price point of CHF19,500 where you don't need to put down 50% and wait 12 months.

They've done well to sell all 100 pieces on those terms.

I don’t see anything justifying that price

It was written in their invitation email and it was readable on the website as long as the watch was orderable

I think 17.02 and 17.03 came before the 19.01 at much more reasonable prices. 17.02 wasn’t even 2k, IIRC.

One thing among others that puts me off is service availability. High prices on some models. Sameness?

Looks great, just wouldn't purchase at that price point.

Any know when they'll start fulfilling the 22.01 GMT Gilts? I know the Kyotos were delayed, but I assume the same for the Gilts?
