5990a vs 5980a
Hey everyone, I'm looking to add a steel Nautilus Chrono to the collection, currently have a 5711A and 5167A.
I like the dual time feature of the 5990 and also the hour counter on the 5980. I feel like I would use the chrono regularly, if nothing more than to have a sweeping seconds so the watch looks more lively. How do people feel about the lack of the hour counter on the 5990? Thanks |

5990!!! No questions asked... It's such an amazing Nautilus with great and useful complications.

A chronograph hour hand would ruin the dial symmetry of 5990 and its absence should be no issue if you like the chronograph seconds hand mainly to see constant motion.

I'll vote for the 5980 on bracelet without hesitation if it was for me. I like the chronograph (aside of the aesthetical reasons).
As your question deals with the lack of chrono hour hand vs a 5990, this is indeed something that bothers me. A manual chrono (5170, etc...) has a 30-minute counter only. It's a 60-minute one in the 5990 hence, twice as much so it could be ok for many. However, I use my chronographs frequently (Speedmaster Mark IV and 5960P, which both have a chrono hour hand). Being limited to 1-hour max timings only makes it unpractical for many situations that usually lasts more than an hour. Accessorily, though not convenient to set, you can have a 2nd time zone on the 5980 by starting the chronograph at the right hour. This being said, if I had the use of a Travel Time function (which I don't), I would certainly accept not having the chrono hour hand. Hope this helps :) |

If you don't have a blue Nautilus I'd get the 80 otherwise the 90, it's bit of an odd looking dial layout for me, but has good functionality.

I got my 5167a new 7 years ago and a used 5711a both from the same AD but haven’t purchased anything else. I’m moving soon and looking to start a new relationship with the AD in my new city. How difficult is it to get a 5990a from an AD as a first piece?
Used 5980a’s are going for 100k so if I could get a 5990a at MSRP that would factor into my decision. |

Man , dear friend I own 8 Patek’s including a 5990 and a 5711 1r I bought from my ad I had a relationship w for years . Patek closed the door on him for reasons unknown.I have tried for several years to find a new AD who would sell me 1 timepiece per year or just one . I really want a 5740 and would write a check today for it but not a chance ! . Cannot find any ad who will work w me in any city ! I am not a flipper and have the requisite several Rolexes , A Royal Oak and several Patriarchs .
Anyhow you will find it difficult if not impossible to find a new ad. May I suggest to you that you continue your relationship w the ad you have and have them put you on the list for 5990 or the 5980 whichever you can get . If you can get either at Msrp jump on it ! Please please keep up your relationship with the ad you have at all costs. Just my experience, james in San Antonio Tx |

Why does the 38mm AP ROC 26715 retail for half the price of the 5990/1A?
