FOIS or vintage Speedy Pro?
I am going to buy a speedmaster. But it is hard to decide whether I should buy a FOIS or a Speedy Pro. Can I have some advices?
For the FOIS, I like the metal Omega logo and I think the lugs look better than Speedy Pro. Also, the case diameter fits me more. For the Speedy Pro, I like vintage watches and I found out the 145.002 is really special. The “long S” and “long R” make the watch look special, and the Tritium dial makes the watch look more vintage. What do you guys think? Thank you! |

We may need clarification on the reference number: Omega produced the 145.012 using Caliber 321 through ~1967, and then replaced that reference with 145.022 using Caliber 861 ~1968. Is it one of these references that interests you? I'm not sure there was a reference 145.002

I would try on both a FOIS and a standard speedy pro. They wear differently to me. I always thought I preferred the straight lugs variants but actually there is little difference in size just the asymmetric case being the difference with the crown guards. The main diff is that the straight lug variants wear a little thicker on me - maybe the case back. So worth a check.
Of the 2 you mention, I suspect a vintage pro is a different price point. That said I’d more likely go that route than the FOIS if I could find a good value one. |

Does a vintage Speedmaster maintenance fee cost much? Also, can I just take the vintage Speedmaster to the AD and ask for maintenance?

"Complete Service" by Omega is $750 for a contemporary Speedmaster Pro (say, a watch newer than the 1960s). This is pretty reasonable when you consider how extensive it can be (replacement of hard parts in the movement may be needed and would be included). This service would normally be performed by the Service Center in your home country. "Restoration" by Omega starts at $1,500 for a vintage Speedmaster Pro (certainly a 145.012, and maybe a 145.022, you'll have to check with Omega to find out). This service would be performed by the specialists employed by Omega at its HQ in Bienne, Switzerland (Omega will ship it there and back for you). Here's the link to Omega's Customer Service info in its site: https://www.omegawatches.com/en-us/c...mplete-service |
