Seriously Considering a Breitling

Guys/Gals,

I've been considering a switch for a while, and recently started looking at Breitlings. I think they're really fantastic watches. Had one about 6-7 years ago and only sold it b/c the 34mm size started to feel small.

At first it was the Colt GMT black dial, but after seeing it in person, the silver colored Arabics just don't pop enough for me against the dark dial.

What really caught my eye is the Superocean! Not the one that has just been released, but the predecessor. Really nice! Love the all polished Professional bracelet (the one in the photo below has plastic covering the bracelet so it's hard to see), the white Arabics against the black dial, the heft, etc...nice and chunky

I do like the version that was discontinued even before this one, but they're not easy to find NOS.

Anyway, this is the one I've tried on....42mm. What do you think? Would love info/opinions/photos, etc regarding the SO.

TIA!

Awww, thanks Dalip! I was worried that at 42mm, it would be too big, but it's really great on! LOVE the shine!

Now, don't fall over when I tell you this - but I will be replacing my Sub with this, if I go for it....I'm ready for a change and really gravitate towards the 'bling' of my DJ and Daytona these days. Sub just doesn't get enough attention.

Uh oh, are you OK??? Seriously, yes, I have been thinking about it for a while. As we all know, feelings towards our watches can change over time. After I got the Daytona, I started noticing my wearing habits more. I like the shiny pieces....still love sporty though!

IMO...and it's only IMO...the only Breitlings worth getting come from the Navitimer lines.

I personally find the dials to be too 'busy' on those models.

True, but the other Breitling lines change so often, they always date themselves rather quickly.

Can't go wrong with a SuperOcean. Breitling has been my favorite brand for some time now. I'm partial to the Windrider Series, specifically the Cockpit/Galactic models.

Good luck on your search. You should be able to find a gently used SO for a good price.

Dynamite looking watch Karis. I also think that new Omega "Liquid Metal" PO with the ceramic bes and face is a beautiful looking watch too!

The Windrider series is great...love the pilot bracelet There don't seem to be many used SOs around, especially the particular version I like....I've been offered a great deal on a BNIB though.

Nice pieces but they don't really 'talk' to me. Looks great on others though!

I agree that would be a shock.. Never thought you would part with your
Sub, Karis.. Tho I agree the Breitling your leaning towards would look
great and be nice to your collection.. Just hope you don't part with your
DJ or daytona

I think I will have to go against the general opinion here and cast a vote for keeping the Sub. IMHO the Sub is the most classic watch ever. Even if you get tired of it for a while, it always rebounds and become a favorite again. If you part with it, I am dead sure you will miss it at some point and somewhere down the road buy it back again. It is just a must have for Rolex collectors. Anyway, you should always follow you heart, this is just how I think about the Sub.

Thanks for the feedback. I haven't made a decision yet. No doubt the Sub is a true classic and beauty, but I sometimes feel like the all brushed look doesn't do as much for me as the polished look does. So I gravitate towards the shine of my other 2 pieces. I like the sharp black dial on the Superocean and the all polished bracelet. Really looks great on and just 'pops' on the wrist.

In that case, I think the GMT IIc is a natural option to at least consider. Combines the classic look of the sub with PCL's and more shine

Thanks....yes, I've thought about this too...another option. I think for now I will forgo the Breitling idea and hold on to my Sub. Don't want to make a mistake that I might regret. Will start wearing the Sub some more and see how I go

WISta! Cool! Do you need to try on my BO1 again? You should get the SS Galactic 41. It looks like a BO1, with polished case and bracelet (bling), but 41mm instead of 44.
