My first Panerai
Hello, I'm looking to pick up my first Panerai and I've narrowed the choice down to a Radiomir Quaranta PAM01293 vs a Radiomir 1940 PAM01144.
My wrist size is 16cm in circumference, so the Quaranta seems to be a more natural fit for my wrist. However, I prefer the case shape of the 1940 Radiomir, the 100m water resistance, and true in-house manual movement. A small concern I have with the 1940 Radimoir is having to unscrew the crown each time I need to wind the watch. Has anyone had experience with either of these watches, particularly the wearing experience, that can provide some feedback? Sent from my SM-S901E using Tapatalk |

That beautiful Radiomir will command a premium due to is small availability, but it is a beauty. Do not worry about the crown and the effect it may have, these things are anyway overengineered for most & regular usage.
I have a 16cm wrist but flat, I have the Luminor 914 (Bettarini case, not the 1950) and I wear it nicely, no lug overhang & etc. Just to give you more ideas, I tried the quaranta and it just did not seem like a proper fit for a Panerai when looking 2+m away from the mirror... |

Beautiful blue.
Personally, if going Radiomir, I prefer the wire lugs over the 1940’s Luminor lugs. Seems more “pure” to me. Good luck with your choice! |

Short update: I've bought the 1940 Radiomir and I'm thrilled with it. Wears great on my wrist and the degrade blue dial is entrancing. A great way to start my panerai journey.

Congrats! It looks stunning. I am very tempted by the blue radiomirs.

wire lug is the classic radiomir, you can add a luminor or submersible later down the road.

Excellent choice, looks great on the wrist. Enjoy the Panerai journey. Search for a cashmere or a JV strap for a different look.

Thanks all for your good wishes. It's been 3 days now and I can't stop staring at the watch. While the dial pops, what I'm really taken by is the shape of the case, the complex angles and how thin it wears on the wrist. I suspect my other watches won't be seeing the light of day anytime soon!

Congrats, that would have been my choice too. I just have one Panerai (662) and it’s a Radiomir too

Beautiful dial. I have only worn the 1950s luminor but I think Panerai looks amazing with the crown exposed.

Thanks everyone, 2 weeks in and I'm still enamoured with it. My GMT2 and Portugieser Chrono are both getting a good rest in the drawer.
