About to buy a TT Yachtmaster 16623.. and having doubts
Hi guys,
This is my first post (I think), but I've been a loyal lurker here for several years now. I thought I was ready to pull the trigger on a TT 16623, white White Dial, V-serial number. I searched endless sites, and also looked at similar, previously sold watches on the Buy section here. The lower end seemed to be around $7,500, and the higher end at around $9,000 for a preowned. I was about to buy with a reputable shop for $8,000, but decided I'd call around to see how much I might be able to get for resale. It turns out that most places would only pay around $5,000-$5,500 for this watch. One seller that I dealt with before in the past for my Datejust told me that it's because TT Yachtmasters are not as popular, so dealers aren't willing to pay as much. Am I destined to lose $2,500 - $3,000 for buying this watch? Is this just the price for loving the White 16623? Please help, I'm torn! On one end, I love the watch. On the other, is it inevitable that I will lose money on it if I ever got sick of it? Thank you for your feedback! |

If you love it, you love it, but when in doubt, pause, and pause again. Then again, the price dealers are willing to pay reflects demand.

I really like the watch a lot but never owned one. The site and shape make for a comfortable watch but they never really have been too popular. I think that you can buy a nice used one for $5500ish and that would limit the damage when/ if you sell.
BTW- I sat in a meeting last week with a guy that had on a TT, white face YM that looked great! |

Yes that would be nice! Only I haven't found anything for less than $8,000. I would definitely buy from a trusted seller, but am I supposed to contact each one individually? Or do they usually all post their merch on the Buy section (There doesn't seem to be any available currently posted)? Thanks for the replies, guys! |

That's like not buying a car because a dealer will buy it for less If it's going to cost you 8 grand, look after the thing, wear it for 3 years and sell it privately for 7G's There is always a cost of ownership but if it's the watch you want it's worth every penny Who knows, maybe when the time comes you will make money on it. Pre owned Rolex, especially in a TT or PM will take a hit of depreciation right outta the gate but odds are an 8000.00 YM has seen the worst of it already Don't overthink it Buy what you like

Wholesale or trade-in to a dealer is $5500 but.....who cares? When you flip it in three years you will most likely sell it to a private buyer, not a dealer. If the YM you are considering has a clean history with box, papers and keeps good time, then buy it.
