Incoming 228206 - after 11 years, the Grail

I never thought this day would come.

Platinum Day Date 40, Roman numerals ice Blue sunburst dial.

(Not actual watch) arriving next week.

Part exchanged 2 watches to get it, I’ve bought and sold many more over the years. Never thought this would be within reach. Maybe I’m part of the grey market problem. I probably am, but I’ve never bought a watch I didn’t own and wear thinking that I’d keep it. It’s just worked out this way.

When I bought a Rose Gold DD40 I couldn’t quite believe it, and now on to this. Thanks again to grey market price inflation, but I suppose that’s capitalism and the nature of supply and demand.

I’d love to think I could have bought my watches from an AD, every time I have bought one, I have tried and apart from my first (a Milgauss GV in 2011) AD purchases have never been an option. I move around too much and don’t have the cash to buy 5 watches I don’t want to get the one I do. So they’ve all been bought “grey” and that’s worked out well for me.

I love watches I love the mechanics, the craftsmanship, the elegance, the engineering, and in the case of Rolex the simplicity illustrated best by the lack of display casebacks. I’ve owned an AP, a Panerai, and 10 Rolex watches, but this is my dream. I’ve sold many “too early” if I was thinking about investment (which I wasn’t) and I don’t want to use the G word, but it doesn’t get much better than this for me. A “Platona” is for many the pinnacle, but I’ve had 2 Daytona’s and can’t get on with the dial and a lack of a date.

I’m a Day Date guy, and this is the one for me.

Nothing but love and respect to those members of this forum who love watches as much as me, which I suspect is all of you. 2022 what a year.

Plat DD40 imho is way way better than a Plat Daytona.

I'm with you I cant stand the Daytona without a date. The day/date is actually a very useful complication.

This is the one watch that could be it for many.

Once I know I can make it happen, it’s inevitable… hence the problem!!

Nice, glad to see you followed your heart and went for it, like the other poster said. After reading I too thought it would be just a matter of time before this incoming thread comes up, Inception! It's a stunner, congrats

Congrats, beautiful piece. If they ever put a fluted bezel on the platinum Day Date, I'm in trouble.

Mentioned in another post, they wouldn’t even take my name if I offered to pay in full in advance.

Maybe that’s a UK thing, but the AD seemed very unsure of when he’d ever see one again. I suppose I could have tried others but I don’t think the premium is crazy, especially considering the markup on steel watches.
