Is the Laureato the newest hot/unobtainable piece?
I picked up a Laureato blue dial in December with a nice discount via a Grey. I can see threads on here from as recently as Feb saying people are picking these up with 10%-15% discount.
As of today; - the grey I bought from are saying they can’t get any Laureato at all full stop! - one AD I’ve been to in store has empty cases and says all allocation for the year gone - another AD saying they have none (asked about chrono version) and can’t say when they will - Watches of Switzerland have the Laureato range as enquire now, when it used to be add to bag and deliver next day - none on watchfinder - chrono 24 seems to be showing blue dial 42mms that were 10-15% discount 6 weeks ago as now being 3-4 x list price. Literally ones on there at £20k - £30k So my question, what the hell has happened over 6 weeks!? I had an inkling these would be the next hot watch as those who can’t get a Patek/AP/VC would naturally turn to the GP Laureato. But i didn’t think it would go from discount to unobtainable in a few weeks |

Pump and dump by a couple dealers and really the first example in full view for folks to see their magic at work…

It’s unbelievable…beautiful watch but I feel like too many people are treating watches as an asset class rather than something they should enjoy…

Really surprised people are falling for this one…in my opinion the watch looks cheap, feels cheap and is supposed to be cheap.

I suppose it is a FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) effect. I tried it on over the weekend; I did not like it. The chrono was also too thick for my liking. Great if you like the watch, but I think the "investors" are now looking at this as the next boom.

In a typical pump and dump, dealers would buy up inventory, hype a piece, dump their inventory to consumers at an elevated price, and then the price would ultimately dump as well, but not before dealers have made their money. I think, at this point, dealers have already made their money and price persists. Probably due to the market being saturated with speculators who unknowingly prop up the high price. Given the low supply of GP watches in general, there's really no telling how high prices can go or how long they will last. |

I don't want to judge any watch or brand, but I personally don't know anyone (family/friends/watch buddies/clients) interested in this brand.

Yeah, I think GP, and UN, missed the opportunity this time around. The next bubble in about 12 to 15 years should give them a better position.
Have you considered the modern, and award-earning, Bvlgari Octo :) Bvlgari_Octo_Finissimo_S_side.jpg

I hope this keeps up forever. I love being able to get whatever dress watches I want.

But it's just with the 'middle-ground' dress pieces imho. Go ultra-high-end dress and you bump up against high demand (again).

Outside of small volume indies, you can easily get most higher end dress watches from Lange, Moritz Grossman, Urban Jurgensen, Ferrier, Lang & Heyne, Patek and VC dress complications, etc. Within the last year alone, I have been able to get a 50 piece limited edition Urban Jurgensen, an 8 piece limited edition Moritz Grossmann, a steel Laurent Ferrier, a limited Gronefeld Principia and a 25 piece limited LUC. Obviously everyone's opinion of "higher end" varies, but I think that's a pretty good sample set.

I inquired about the 38mm Laureato maybe 6 weeks ago and was told that size was sold out worldwide and has been discontinued by GP. So there could be some supply shenanigans going on, along with the demand nonsense. This was from an SA at Watches of Switzerland who also said they had a bunch of other (larger) Laureatos in stock; I gather that's changed, as you say, in just the past couple weeks.
I do find the piece attractive (and was excited at the prospect of 38mm, which I find to be the perfect size), but can also admit that I wouldn't like it nearly as much if I weren't associating it with the Royal Oak. |

Bought mine cause i like the looks and history of the Laureato line. Was also really impressed with the finish on the case and bracelet. Been wearing it a lot lately.
