First Rolex, first impressions
Hi everyone,
I just received my new Rolex Sea-Dweller and I wanted to share some thoughts about it.
Overall, I'm thrilled with this watch. It took me a while to understand why Rolex was so popular and why so many people were obsessed with them. Now, I get it. |

Congratulations on both purchases... but especially on the Lange 1. The Lange 1 moon phase is my grail watch!

Congratulations. I just got an identical Sea Dweller.
In my case, I have a Bluesy two-tone Sub, and I had told my dealer I was interested in a stainless/black Sub also. He suggested the SD instead, with the argument that it was a little different and I looked at them side by side and I agreed. From a distance, most people would identify a SD as a Sub, but up close they are not the same. The face is a little smaller on the SD, and the bezel is engraved differently. There is a light difference in size as you noted. I also agree the Deep Sea is a lot thinker and heavier and I felt it was too much. Also, I have no use for 11,800 water resistance. Of course, you could argue most of us don't need 4,000ft water resistance either but I take that number to mean I'm safe if it's hit was high pressure water jets, and it's likely to stay sealed longer and better. As but one example, a pressure washing wand in a car wash can put some pretty high pressure on anything it hits up close. |
