Hello dear forum, attached a photo of my reference 16750 from 1983 (serial no. 8227XXX). I would like to know whether it is the right insert and whether you can draw conclusions about the color of the back.

The insert appears to be from a sapphire crystal GMT model, such as a 16710 or 16700. It has the seriff attributes like found on some of those inserts.

And, just in case anyone is wondering, you can fit a GMT sapphire insert on an a acrylic crystal 1675/16750 if you try hard enough.

After looking through countless pictures, I had such a suspicion. What should a correct inlay (including the back) from this period look like?

It definitely looks like a 16700/16710 serif insert

One recently sold on Ebay that was questioned on the watchout section very similar to yours, they are common. Hopefully you did not pay a vintage price..

For that serial number, I would have expected a red backed insert.

Certainly, my 5.58xx serial has a red backed insert - photos by Phillip R when serviced a few years ago

Sherbie can you check your serial number - I would not have expected a glossy dial with this ... I would have classified this number around 1978.
