There are no lists
So, this is anecdotal.
A great friend is considered a "whale" at our AD. I advise him on his retail businesses. A few weeks ago, I realized we had missed a fifteen year anniversary of a key employee. I talked to the employee about the anniversary, and he said his dream was a Rolex GMT. Texted my friend "You need to get a GMT for ____". He texted AD. They said "Stop by". A day later, he sent me photos from the AD. "Would he like a Batman or Bruce Wayne?" with both watches in the photo. He left with Batman a few minutes later. I am 100% certain that if I had stopped by a day before, I could have "gotten on the list" and perhaps advanced on the list with some 90% markup diamond jewelry. One person's experience and opinion. |

How does that song go, that’s just the way it is, somethings will never change.
The lists are all BS, it depends on your spend history and relationship. Some of us get lucky and score on the first visit or very soon after. Sometimes? Very clever marketing tactics, The lists. The AD chooses who they want to sell to period. I’m sure that AD has more than few customers waiting on either of those pieces, on the so called list. Those days are over for most pieces, they are a few models that will always hard to get The SS Daytona or the GMT BLRO and some others new releases etc…. So I believe it, for sure. We all have to play the game until we are chosen. Cheers, |

I believe my AD has lists. Chronological? No, but if you are told “you are on the list” you will get one. They are a high volume Rolex only store and pretty much know how many of each model they will get each year so the lists are geared towards that, they will never tell anyone five years or the like.
There are six SA’s that have to share what comes in and of course always a few VIPPs that get offered new releases first. My longest wait was 9 months for a 116500, 7 months for a BLRO. Lots of variation in the way dealers are run. |

We have only 1 dealer on the island. The other lost their AD status last year. They have the whole of the Canaries and touristy parts of southern Spain too.
So living on a year round tourist island we have rich locals, politicians, local and international celebs with houses here and a huge amount of rich tourists looking to move money. Everything is still 'display only' and they never have anything on the ultra desirable list in the window ever, I guess they don't need to. the only time I was actually offered a watch (a TT YMll) was around covid time when there was zero business happening . Before and since nada |

There is a list and then again there is not a list. I'm not on a list, I say what I want and they get it to me as fast a possible and they can always tell me when. The only waiting time there is from Rolex/next shipment. They're a small AD so they don't get that many watches.

There are no lists
Yes and no. I think there are 3 tiers.
1) some folks can get any watch they want at anytime they want. Rarefied air. These folks are the elite. 2) there are lists for folks like myself. I can get any watch I want but it takes a little time. The exception might be a white Daytona, and there could be tiers within this tier. 3) there is no list for the average Joe. They’re not getting a GMT BLNR and probably not even a Submariner either. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm happy to be on a list, a non list, or anything else my AD devisies, just so long as I get to the top of it in due course or preferably sooner.
I was offered a BLNR on a walk in on one occasion. I'm not a big spender, I was just in for a repair the day after a consignment arrived, we got chatting and the SA decided to do something nice for me. Right place right time. No sale though, I wanted a BLRO. |

No such things as a chronological list for watches. You express interest and it may or may not be noted for future reference and allocation of a watch. I have seen super whales request and buy multiples of watches that are not available to anyone else, anytime. Such is the watch/car or any other game where money and spend history talks. Do I like it, it does not matter, just like I don't when it comes down to impacting a business with the money I spend. The sooner I realized I had to get my emotions out of buying/selling/trading the better I did and the better my collection looks. Just the way that it is.

I didn't hesitate to go Grey. The only dealings I have had with ADs is when I had to send my watch in under warranty. Not my scene at all in there. A bunch of pretentious people walking around in their expensive suits. I wanted my AK, bought it at Grey, and never gave it a second thought.

I wish there is a list and the only thing I need to do is to wake up earlier than the rest and be the 1st in the queue outside the store.

Not an opinion, this is a fact.
There is no such thing as a list. The AD either wants to sell you a watch or they don’t. Most of the time (not always, but 99% of the time) it goes by how much money you have dropped at the particular AD since you’ve started shopping there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

ADs sell to whom they want when they want. The mention of "lists" is just a polite way of dealing with customers.

Here we go again. Nothing new here. We are all special. Hey, we can afford a Rolex, right! They know me, I'm special to them, right?
The days of next in the queue only exist at the deli counter! I was on the list when the 116500 came out and the day the BLRO was announced. Years later the manager let me know that the "list" was imaginary and I never saw either piece at retail. I was also a 20 year customer. |

My SA has shown me the "List" , it's more of just a registry of interest. Once the pieces come in, they are allotted to each SA by the AD owner/manager. Typically the more sought after pieces are spread around to different SA. Since those go to the SA clients that obviously spend more which in turn helps their personal numbers. But nothing is sold chronologically from the "list"

There is definitely no list. I had my AD text me if I knew anyone looking for polar explorer 2.
ADs will never let SS models hit the cases for the foreseeable future regardless of demand. I am on for the boutique only model. Get rid of the WoS of the world and go with distributors that sale Rolex only. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

1. There is a fictional list because there is not enough supply. (What most think) 2. There is a real list, which is based on how many preferred customers they let cut in front of you, before they allocate to you. 1 = fake. 2 = real. |

There are lists, but not sorted by the date column like some continue to hope.

Yep...there's a "registry of interest".
I signed up for sub date last year at 3 different ADs.....got my sub date in 7 weeks with no purchase history. I had only stopped in person at this AD twice. The other AD, I had only visited twice but then after I got my sub, never followed up. 2 months ago, that AD texted me saying they had a sub date waiting (14 months later). No purchase here either. I called them and told the rep I already bought it and they can sell it to the next person on the list. I've never heard anything from the 3rd AD..lol. I'm now on the waitlist for BLNR for my 50th next year with the same AD I got my sub from.

[emoji[emoji6][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]] When you have commission based sales (how a lot of jewelry/watch ADs operate) this is exactly how it works for highly desired watches. Yes, there are instances when a manager/owner, who isn’t on commission, will sell a piece to someone that might not spend much in their store. But that happens a little less frequent than we think. |

There is no list. You’re a Whale or you’re Plankton.
Spend millions, you have the owner’s home phone number and whatever is in the safe is yours. Very simple. Stop kidding around and wake up… And this isn’t just Rolex. You want a room at an exclusive hotel that is sold out? Whale or Plankton. You want front row seats to the Taylor Swift concert? Whale or Plankton? Stop registering your interest at a zillion ADs, you’re Plankton. Pick one or two, and only buy from them, send all your friends to buy from them, have your parents, siblings, kids, cousins and uncles buy from them. Become the Whale. Or, be Plankton. Maybe you walked in and got a watch offered to you, and it was super interesting and on your list so you bought it. Odds are it wasn’t a Pepsi, or Bruce Playne, or a Daytona, or a Blue Hombre DD or a John Mayer. Etc. You’re not a Whale. You bought what was offered to you as a walk in, but you’re not walking in and simply walking out with the HOT list watch. It’s okay, not everyone can be a Whale. Just figure out how to make the most of being Plankton. |

If I've been on a list for more than 4 years for a Pepsi, maybe I'm not getting one. LOL. Its a high volume AD in a ritzy area. :-/ They only sell watches (no jewelry), so I have no spend history with them.
Does anyone have thoughts on whether a small AD (lower volume and shorter lists) or a larger chain AD (higher volume and longer lists) are better for someone with no spend history/ |
