Houndstooth DD dials?
I’ve seen these “houndstooth” pattern dials fairly often on DJs, but this is only the 2nd or 3rd DD one I can recall.
These would seem to be quite an unlikely target for fakers. Like Stellas, they were unpopular when released. Unlike Stellas though, they have remained unpopular ever since! As a result, these don’t command much price premium (which seems bound to somewhat reduce the motivation for fakery). I sorta like the look - Does anyone know if these houndstooth DD dials are indeed legit, as I expect? Anyone see any concerns about this one in particular (beyond a bit of lume damage)? TIA! . |

Yes, I would agree. The pyramid dials are one of my favorites.
The hounds tooth dial - not so much, but, it is not a common dial indeed.

Are these from the '80s or '90s?

The houndstooth dials were originally fitted only to bimetallic watches and most of them went into Datejusts, with 26mm, 31mm and 36mm versions being available.
The only Day-Date that was fitted with such a dial from the factory was the bimetallic lookalike Tridor, such as this 18239: https://www.demesy.com/rolex-preside...s-watch-18239/ They were certainly available up to about 1994, and possibly a bit later, but I'm not sure when they were removed from the Master Catalogue. |
