No they are not collectors watches... The only collector watches are the vintage Paul new mans which are quite pricey.

Dont buy it for collectors sake buy it because you want this lovely timepiece, if something else calls out more then go with that.

If you want collector item go vintage. Daytona is great piece but certainly not rare.

Any vintage Daytona is collectable, not just the PN dail models.
As for the current model who knows how long it will take it before collectable. There are tons and tons out there. The Zenith model Daytona will be collectable long before the current model, but that too is years away. |

Get it if you like it but like the vast majority of modern Rolex it is in no way collectible. The "coveted" quality you refer to is more related to what was once pretend scarcity.

So what do you think?
Do you like the watch on its own merits? |

Welcome to the forum and forget the collectability of the Daytona. They can be a little difficult to find but not scarce by any means. They are very good looking IMO.

It's a great watch. I find the dial mesmerizing-especially those found in the precious metals...I can get lost for hours in one.
That said, it's not for everyone. Plenty of haters even right here on TRF. Collectable in the sense of rarity or scarcity? Nah...but a good watch to have in a collection? Absolutely-my opinion anyway. |

Well they are not rare, but you had a rare opportunity to see and compare them both at the same time, my kinda dealer!

Not rare at all. My local AD is able to get the black and white face with no issues.

Agree with others... modern models are not rare any longer, but a great watch to own and wear. Super comfortable on the wrist!

Unless Rolex decides to discontinue the production of the 40MM DAYTONA and replace it with DAYTONA II which we less likely see this happen any of the watches you talk about in the store will be collectors item

It probably has the highest residual value of any current day Rolex. But, it is not collectable.
