Bobcat Encounter
Recently I was looking for owls and found a cavity in this tree that looked promising. After checking it out with no success I was about to leave when I looked up and back from where I had just walked and saw this young bobcat looking down on me from the end of a limb on the same tree. He was enjoying the morning sun after a cool night. He was watching me very closely and in order to try not to spook him I avoided eye contact and slowly backed up so he didn't see me as a threat. There was a creek separating us so I think that gave him a little more sense of security.
I watched him for about 45 minutes and he actually went to sleep once he realized I wasn't a threat. Eventually he decided it was time to move on. You never know what you will run into out there.

Very nice pics, Mike. And that is a beautiful cat, too. Glad the two of you didn't have to make contact.

How big would you say he was? Hard to tell from the pics (which are superb).

Now that is an awesome encounter (and pics). Of course I would have been frozen with fear if I saw it in the wild. Not the kind of animal I would expect in the northeast. Very cool.

Thanks folks!
Thank you. I would say approximately 25ft. I had to back up to fit him in the frame once he started moving. Quote:
Thanks. They are smaller than you might expect. This was actually taken in Florida.

Great pictures! It always amazes me how the big kitties and the little kitties mimic each other.
