Black ceramic GMT + Submariner?

Guys - does it make sense to own both the black ceramic GMT and a Submariner date or are they too similar? Curious to get your views...

Too similar looks wise in my opinion but I’m sure others will disagree with me.

No I had the same dilemma, visually very similar. I sold the Black GMT and bought a Batman instead in the same week.

The Blue lifts the black ceramic bezel beautifully on the GMT Batman.

One’s a GMT the other, a diver. They can both coexist easily IMO

You might consider a BLRO or BLNR for an added pop of colour for a little more variety.

I went with the 114060 and the LN, they are similar at a glance but when you compare them side by side, not so much

It all depends on how/why you buy them. Spontaneously, yes, they are close and look similar, but GMT is dressier with polished center links.

Now if you plan to hand down watches to kids - pile them up! ;-)

I found that the Sub Date was too similar to my GMT. Sold the Sub Date and picked up a basic Submariner. I like the Sub better without the date.

Different dial, hands, bezel, case and bracelet so not similar at all.

If you already have the GMTcLN, get the 116613LB or 116610LV.

I have 114060, 116710LN and 116710BLNR (added 63600 jubilee for it). All similar designs but all are different. I initially was all about the sub but the GMT is my favorite in the entire line up.

They both work together but add a Hulk for the diver and they really work well together.

They are only similar to the casual observer, but it's a lazy comparison. I own the LVc and the BLRO and IMO, they wear very differently. To the point made in another comment, the colors may play a role in visually separating them.

I travel more than dive so I bought a GMT as it is so dam useful, if you’re in it purely for looks then go with what you like! (I would go bluesy if that was the case).

If you already own a black GMT.

Black ceramic GMT + Submariner?

Your money but I would vote no to owning both and use the funds toward something like a PM sub which is reasonably priced vs SS right now.

None of us are ever likely to dive deeper than the GMT's 100m or lose track of time zones while flying.
That leaves us with two very similar looking watches, and for me, there are too many other beautiful watches out there.

I was in your shoes once. I was even afraid that my Batman would look to similar with black Sub Dated. In your situation I wouldn't do it. You can sell your GMt add $2K and get Hulk, that would make it a little more different, but that you have to like green on Hulk. My case I don’t like Green Sub. So I went with Batman and Black Sub. Hope it helps. Hope you are happy with whatever you make decision.

Doesn’t make sense to me, but it’s all personal opinion. If you “needed” both complications, and love black dial/bezel watches.....that would make sense.
I had both and thought they look too similar. If I were keeping a diver and a gmt in the collection, they’d be different color bezel, dials, metals or bracelets.

Any gmt with any diver is a great Rolex combo regardless of bezel color.

I think they can easily exist in a collection together; it is all about what YOU like.

It does make sense, especially if you have different bezel colors.

I thought so having a Subc so I purchased the Batman instead although I do love the LN as well. In reality I'd say they're different enough to justify both plus you only wear one at a time. Totally up your taste and choice. If you love it enough I'd say yes even though I didn't. The same 'choice' thing kind of happened when I bought my Expll Polar over the black. Love both equally but went white for diversity in dial colors for my collection.

To the untrained eye, they are very similar.

To the watch enthusiast, they are very different (For instance, the hour and minute hands on the GMT are actually slightly bigger than on the Sub)
