One Rolex vs more watches

Hi, one curious question, You have +- 45 000 US dollars. What would You rather buy?

- A solid gold Rolex - Submariner, GMT-Master II, Day-Date for example.

- 1-2x Omega, 1-2x Breitling and TT Rolex Sub, or GMT for example.

I currently only own Breitling Superocean Héritage Chronograph 46mm. Thanks.

PM Rolex, no question. I did the other for many years and ultimately sold them and landed on more aspirational pieces

As for your options I'd choose the one PM Rolex.
Not included in your options - I'd rather have two SS Rolex rather than one PM.

I got 18k yellow gold chain and I was thinking about to buy a solid gold Rolex, because SS and gold looks a little bit weird to mee, so I am thinking about it a lot right now.

I’d rather have one $10,000 Rolex than four or five watches that cost around $2,000.

But if we’re talking about $45,000, then I’d rather have multiple watches that cost around $10,000 each. Someday I might prefer the $45,000 watch, but not today.

I'd rather have multiple SS Rolex pieces than a single PM. But of the options you listed, I'd opt for the single Rolex PM

It's a tough question, but I go to work 1 to 2 times a week max., so I probably wouldn't use those more pieces anyway.

Whatever rocks your both. Personally, I am not a one watch guy. I prefer to have at least 2 watches.

Id buy DD and a SS sport model. With 45k usd you can easily afford both.
Brand new DD36mm is 35k. You are left with 10k for a Sub/GMT. You may need to add 1-2k to buy both new.
Alternatively, buy one of them pre-owned, preferably the DD as these normally sell under MRSP.

I currently wear every day SS Breitling, the watch is the same design as my chain, now I got 18k YG chain and it looks weird to me, so I was thinking about a solid gold piece to match it better.

I love PM but would not start there, I'd get a SS, then another, and appreciate the quality and craftsmanship and then trade one towards a PM, which will take you to a whole another level of appreciation and wonder, and then you have AP and PP and Lange etc. Take your time and enjoy the journey, getting too much too soon can shut down the joy of discovery and growth.

With the exception of WG, wearing a full PM watch is a commitment. Given this choice I would go for the multiple option. OP, you mention a TT Sub, if that is the TT Blue, that is a boss watch. Go that route.

If I were you, Ai would get a SS Sub, and a TT yellow gold Datejust, to match your gold chain, and have money left over.

Anyway, thanks for so many responses, it really depends on everyone, personally I'd rather spend the night with the woman of my dreams than have two better ones there. Sometimes I hesitate, but I've already made up my mind.

Cheers.

^^^Yup. It really boils down if PM even gives you that “zing” or not. Not everyone gets that feeling of a PM model over a SS. Even weight might be a reason to not like PM, especially if it’s your only model.

In my opinion, the best way to spend that 45,000 for Rolex watches would be:

1) An Oysterflex Daytona and a Submariner

2) A few SS five-digit watches: Submariner, GMT II, Explorer I, Explorer II etc.

Owning one gold watch would never be my choice.

For 45k, I'd get a Sub for everyday and a genuine high horology piece to go with it.

If you like the YG go for it. You can only wear so many watches. I have 2 omega and 2 rolex, that keeps my wrist pretty covered. If I had the money to grt a WG daytona vs 5 or 6 rolex/omegas, with my current watche's I'd go WG daytona in a hearbeat....or platinum.
