Platinum Day Date?

Just curious.

I threw my name down for a Plat Day Date 40 this morning.

I’ve got a well documented history with the AD, 4 or 5 PM, and a 6107.

Am I spitting in the wind?

I was offered the Pt. DD with baguette markers in October but I passed on it because I have a preference for the dial with roman numerals. That was the second Pt. DD they received since they were announced.

The other reason why I am shying away from platinum watches is the wearability issue. They are very heavy and become almost unwearable after a whole day of wear. But again, you may have a different preference and/or experience than me. I mean even the white gold meteorite GMT feels heavy on the wrist by eod.

Really depends on how many your AD gets. I doubt there is a long list, but many ADs don't see many platinum pieces. They cannot sell what they don't have.

Totally get it.

This is a “milestone” piece for me.

I gave up and just bought one second hand. Glad to have it, felt I got a great deal. Didn’t wind up with a new fluted bezel one but don’t mind at all.

Having said that, I don’t think it’s impossible, but will depend on your location/ local demand. They’ll probably get a coupe a year?

I’ve had 2 PT DD’s and loved them. Fit wonderfully as well. My only concern was in winter it became a tad loose and didn’t want to mess with removing links.

My PT Daytona is the most comfortable watch I’ve ever had. It just fits perfectly and doesn’t move around. I’m sad to take it off each night.

The key is getting a good fit.

Good luck and you’ll love it!

Got offered it but declined. It loses value off the lot and I prefer my cookie monster which is much more practical. It's rather spend 15k on a white gold dd 36 and have 50k to play with.

I have been on a list for the DD40 PlayDate for about a year (with little purchase history) and while waiting have been offered a WG DD40 and a RG DD40 by the AD....I think PM non-sports models are not as unobtainable as their sports model counterparts.

Hope we all get one.

Spitting in the wind for a watch that's cheaper on the grey market and that you can actually get tomorrow for less? LoL ..

The ADs are playing on their last card at this point and are trying their best to keep the charade going regarding certain references..

The grey market doesn't have this luxury so they have to follow the real demand and offer these references at sub retail prices among other PM pieces such as white gold subs, YM, majority of 36 and 40 daydates, most of the two tone datejusts .. At this point probably half of the Rolex complete offering are sub MSRP at your local AD, if not more.

I think you will have no trouble getting a platinum DD. I got one last year with no purchase history. I had a 36mm platinum DD and wanted to get the 40mm. I love the smooth bezel so I was happy to get the one with white romans and the smooth bezel. They have the fluted bezel now .... which i dont like. BUT most people prefer it. I LOVE platinum. I like the weight. It's really a special piece... does not appeal to everybody. But... if you like platinum.... you will enjoy this watch.

I would think you can get one in a reasonable amount of time. I would also visit 4-5 other AD's and have a conversation with them about what you want. You are just expanding the field of potential providers. I would also look at our Trusted Sellers to get a feel for what they are asking for these watches. Remember, asking and getting are a different thing. I have always had good luck calling and having a respectful conversation and asking for a discount. The more expensive the watch is, typically the greater the discount, unless it is rare. Good luck and keep us posted.

I walked into a store last December and they had one sitting. It was sold soon after but the fact it wasn't in a safe and just on display tells me the market isn't big enough to make it hard to get.

You will get it 100% even without a spend. These are expensive pieces, unlike the average Rolex, not too many buyers willing to spend. However you will find below retail by the summer, if not now

Nice! Pre-congrats. Can't wait to see it. Plus, you get a mini vacation out of it.

This is a good point. I put my name down for one a few months ago, fully not expecting to get a phone call within the next two years. I need to finish my current endeavor before I can reasonably get a DD36, though.

The MSRP for the PlayDate 40 is around $63k….C24 and eBay have them offered btwn $75k - $100k…where do these actually clear the market?
