Icon20 Rolex DateJust 36 Silver questions - Help!

I’ve just been offered a silver 36mm on a walk in. Wasn’t expecting to get offered anything straight away! I must admit the watch is stunning, but made me wonder why it available for sale in the first place! Is it not a very desirable colour? I’m 35 - is it considered to be a grandpa watch given the silver colour?
Am I missing a trick in the book by not waiting for the more popular mint green or blue ( there is a waitlist for them) Also wondering how a silver DJ will hold its value over time?
Thanks!

I personally really love the silver dial for its classic look and would love to own one some day. I’ve been waiting on one for my wife for a year now although now she wants to change silver for a blue dial with diamond markers dial.

It’s a watch with a timeless dial color, classic, will never tire you.
If you can, buy it.

It’s very simple, do you like the colour and do you want a Datejust? Or do you actually want another watch or colour? The questions about holding value are irrelevant.

Welcome. Don't overthink it. Buy what you like. If there's a different reference or dial color that you prefer, then pass. If you love it and have the means, go for it.

First piece I was same day offered was Silver DJ 41. Turned it down due to not wanting that color. Since then, have purchased 3 DJ's including a Wimbledon 41 (Fluted/Jubilee). I would advise be firm in what you want, but be prepared to purchase when you get that call.

I like the silver OP. As stated, don't overthink it. If you want it buy it and enjoy.

Just because you're offered it doesn't mean you have to buy it. While I love a silver dial datejust (I have a 16030), I have to say wait for the one you really want.

The 36mm silver dial datejust is so classic though I think it could fit in any collection.

The choice is not multi-layered it’s binary; do you like it? If there is a DJ you like better then you should wait for that. Settling for what’s available and then buying what you really want later is an expensive habit.

Depends on your long term goals. Are you trying to build a relationship, in order to get more desirable models later? If so, buy it. You said it was stunning. That’s a great first new Rolex. Mine was the silver OP 36. No regrets here. I still love that beautiful silver dial.

It’s a classic DJ and I definitely like it.

But only buy it if you love it or at least like it a lot and intend to build a relational for future buys.

Agree with this - otherwise would have made decision easily.

Also there is no information on bezel or bracelet type, or if it is two tone. All those affect value/desirability.

Easy answer........what colour do you want?

Silver is a fantastic colour and looks totally awesome with the gold numerals.
Blue looks great, Green looks great.............Full disclosure I own Mint green 36mm,fluted,jubilee.
Buy which ever dial you love in DJ.

If DJ does not float your boat, then buy the reference that does.

Every reference you desire is available to buy.....some from AD, some from grey.

Only buy what you love.

If you have to come on this forum to ask these questions, thats a sign of you wanting to get into a watch for the wrong reasons. I suggest that if you dont know what you want and its your first Rolex then dont buy. You are better off keeping that cash in your bank account. When you know which watch you want, go to the grey market and buy it from a reputable dealer because the chances of you buying a watch that is desirable from an AD are very very low, unfortunately.

All depends on how long you keep
It! Initially if you were to sell in 3 months you may lose a couple of grand, but if you sell in 10years you may make one or two who knows!

Don’t buy on others views or value, buy because you like it ! It’s the best way to get a collection you’re happy with, I have only bought what I like and to date hint considered selling any of them.

Good luck !

Ps if you buy it you will buy more lol

Do you want to buy an extra value on the secondary or a watch to wear? The answer will vary depending on which you are after.

Fluted with jubilee is a great combo. Dressy to me though. If that’s what you want. My life is a bit too casual for that . I would be wearing when I go more dressy. Disclosure, I actually bought a Cartier Tank for that. My wife was offered a mint 36 with smooth and we took it in a hurry. She wears it almost every day . If it talks to you , buy it.

Nice watch, although I prefer the 41mm. its an absolute classic and great on any age. Not a grandpa watch. Walk in where? Partridge?? I just scored a Daytona from them. it'll be a good start for your purchase history.
