MB&F Legacy Machine incoming

My latest addition, and first foray into independent watchmaking. This one has certainly drawn some attention among my watch idiot friends. I’m sure it is not to everyone’s taste, but we are a broad church!

The MB&F Split Escapement EVO.

Thank you Max and Stephen!

Looks awesome. I love these, having trouble deciding if I like this or the LM101 more prior to making a follow up decision to commit to the waitlist

I love this watch. Congrats on the purchase! Also that’s a damn good choice as your first independent.

Thanks everyone.
A question for those more steeped in this hobby, is MB&F truly an independent? Even before the Chanel part acquisition, I feel they are more advanced as a company than what I see as a true independent. Thinking of the likes of Ludovic Ballouard and Rexhep Rhexepi here.

I guess there is a spectrum, Max was probably once more like Rexhep, and success and recognition perhaps pushes a company in a direction that appears less independent. If independence means not having to answer to investors and make creative decisions based on financial outcomes, then MB&F would still be that.

Is it an outdated notion for an independent to be more like a small team hunched over a dimly lit bench creating a handful of pieces to an obscure collector base?

Anyway, I am super pleased with this beautiful timepiece, that is so much more that a watch.

And here is what you came for. A pic of my watch and my dog. Enjoy.

A broad church indeed, although here perhaps a little narrower than some other places.

Congrats on a cool watch.

They are definitely a “true” independent. Their pieces are unique and like nothing else out there.

Romain Gauthier also has a slice owned by Chanel and is equally unique.

Chanel also owns a stake in FPJ. It looks like both RG and FPJ have been operating very independently from Chanel. Kinesi is also partly owned by Chanel and I think that is for Chanel to get access to the movements for the J12s. RG did involve in some of the high end Chanel watches though.

Both FPJ and Max gave the same reasons for the Chanel investment and they sound like good reasons. I am sure if their children are involved in the business, the decision would have been different.

Truly outstanding, congratulations! One of the best independents in the business IMHO - great product, great people, company values, etc.
