Rolex Explorer 2 go back to 40 mm?

How many of you wish that Rolex would downsize current Explorer from 42 mm to 40 mm?

If Rolex brought back 16570 dimension but with upgraded movement, it would be amazing

Me. Prefer 40 over 42mm. I had a 216570. Just a bit too big for me.

It would be just like the 16570, which are commonly available for 5-7k, thus not that desirable.

Come on, you 40mm guys have so many watches to choose from already. Do you really have to steal the couple good 42mm options that are out there for the rest of us?

Make several sizes, like they do with the Explorer

I like it at 42mm particularly with the white dial. I've got mine so it doesn't matter to me what Rolex do with it going forward.

I have the 42 Exp2 Polar and love it. But honestly, I would prefer 40 or 41mm. However, that would then bring it too close to the Sub 40.5mm and GMT 40mm.

Had both.

Settled on the 40.

Orange hand of 42 is cool

It’s always pointed out that the sub is 40.5mm rather than 41mm. I might be wrong but I think the 226570 is 41.5mm and it is pretty slim for a GMT being the same thickness as a sub.

In real life, when tried on back to back with a sub, the sloping aluminium bezel on the Explorer II made the watch look and feel smaller to me than the ceramic sub so I think the current one is absolutely fine.

I do think the size concerns are way overstated - judge for yourself from the photo below.

Considering Rolex has brought the overall line closer to 42 than 40, I don’t see them changing the Explorer II… but who knows with Rolex.

I prefer the 16570. Think it's only a matter of time before Rolex goes back to 40mm on the EXP II. Given what happened with the Explorer, I think the writing is on the wall. Trend is going back to 36-40mm watches.

They have a GMT-Master for that.

42 is better. I’d lose interest at 40.

You mean, Explorer going from 36 to 39 and then back to 36 only to go even bigger at 40? And Sub going from 40 to 41? And new YMs at 42 instead of 40? ;-)

You've proven my point - Rolex SA isn't adverse to playing around with sizing (whether going up or down). Further, Rolex is still making the 36mm 124270 - it has not been replaced by the 40mm variant.

Personally, I don't see any Rolex watches going beyond 42mm in diameter - ever (w/exception of Deepsea/Deepsea challenge).

I’d be very Intersted in the polar ExpII in a smaller case size.
Love the current version but too much watch for my wrist when ever I try it on ( hoping to feel differently )

Any ‘trend’ on watch sizes is plainly a ridiculous concept.

A 36mm watch will look ridiculous on my wrist, & my Sea Dweller will be rubbish on someone else’s 6.5 inch wrist.

There should always be plenty of size options available for everyone, end of.

Let the big wrists enjoy their E2 too. There are simply lots of good options for this model.

I prefer the polar at 42. That and the movement isn’t an upgrade.

I’d prefer the Explorer II over a GMT Master II if it was 40.

Yes... in fact, the 16570 is more like 39mm. I'd (try to be) be first in line at my AD for one if that existed. I'll gladly take the orange hand as well.

I believe you’re referring to the 126570, which they don’t make yet.
