Would you rather?

If you had lets say a $30k budget for watches.

Would you rather have 1 PM watch at around 30-40k

OR

3 SS watches around 10-15k each?

Generally 3 > 1, but depends on the 3. 1 PM Daytona would beat 3 YMs for me.

I would buy what appealed to me, but 30k wouldn't go on one watch I might do 3 stainless models or a TT plus SS.

yeah, I'd also take the 3 over just one.

There are times where a PM Rolex isn't appropriate to wear, say traveling, or for me, while on site (construction). A SS model always goes well.

Just don't feel that a PM Rolex is 100% a daily, while there are a number of SS models that can easily be worn daily.

If you don't have a Rolex yet, I'd rather buy a PM for that kind of money than three SS versions.

I’ll take the 3 please - can get three modern versions of classics in SS for that.

I’d love to own a PM Rolex..

But if there is nothing in your collection to begin with ?

I’d take a SS GMT, Sub, and Explorer all day over a single PM reference.

Would you rather?

Controv but I might go one two-tone eg CHNR or bluesey and one steel eg explorer ii, sub etc.

I would rather get more than 1. Probably a Bluesy and blue dial Sky dweller on jubilee.

Buy 1 stainless now and wear it daily while you save a little more for a PM to pair it with.

3 SS no question.
Get the PM another time to mark something special in the future.

Three SS, no doubt.

But if I had a budget of $10K, I’d rather have one Rolex than 3 or 4 watches for around $2500 each.

Good arguments, but lets make it more specific:

PM OF Daytona - $33.5k

OR

SS Submariner Date - $10.25k
DJ 41 Mint Green Fluted/Jubilee (a bit of PM there) - $10.6k
GMT Master BLNR on Jubilee - $10.9k
Total: $31.75k

Assuming everything is purchased at retail of course. :)

3 SS for me. I’m not the type who could pull off wearing a PM watch all the time.

If Rolex,
one for $10K (Submariner)
another for $20k ish, a bit dressier, perhaps a two-tone.

If VC or AP,
$30k on a steel model.

Personally this is exactly what I would do but the next watch afterwards when funds are replenished would be a PM Daytona on OF.

If I owned none watches at the start of this exercise, 3 SS without question. If I have a collection in process already, depending on what that looked like, I would consider the single PM piece.

Last time I checked 38500 was about what the precious metals were going for at the least MSRP and of course I'm talking about day-date i'm not sure about daytona's submariners gmts but if I went precious metal I would want it to be a day date so at the least I think you're looking at 38 500 with that said and the budget you propose I would go with as indicated by another person here maybe a two-tone and a steel or two. and we're talking Rolexes right. and picking one up from an authorized dealer if possible.
